TOPIC – NO SERVICE WITHOUT SACRIFICE

Read: 2 Samuel 24:18-25

MEMORISE: Then the king said to Araunah, “No, but I will surely buy it from you for a price; nor will I offer burnt offerings to the LORD my God with that which costs me nothing.” So David bought the threshing floor and the oxen for fifty shekels of silver” (2Samuel 24:24a).

EXPOSITION

Personalities of the ancient times had shown us how to serve God or gods, depending on the option we choose. We learnt that the people of old diligently put in their best in moral, financial and physical to please their gods or goddesses. There would be situation(s) whereby the adherents of these lesser gods would deny themselves of food, sex and any other pleasure, just because they wanted to please and satisfy the gods, which obviously are dead (Psa. 115:4-7)

How does this apply to the Christians who are (should be) serving the TRUE God (Psa. 115:3a)? Does your service cost you something? First of all, your entire life, have you totally submitted it to your Creator? If it has been difficult for you to simply and totally give your life to God, how then will it be effortless for you to do same with your God-given materials, wealth and others? You had better know this: No sacrifice; No service.

The salvation of mankind cost Jesus Christ His sinless life. How could you then want to serve God and don’t want to spend? Some are not only uninterested in spending and being spent for the cause of God; they go ahead to discourage others who wish to spend their all for God! Are you one of such? Before you are dealt with, repent now and faithfully spend and be spent for God, for that is the basis for your living. Stay sacrificial for the Lord.

PRAYER POINTS

1.  Lord, enable me with the grace to incorporate my service with sacrifice.

2.  Lord, help me to be selfless and sacrificial in my service to You and humanity, unto Your immediate and ultimate glory.

3.  Pray that our civil servants would be more selflessly and sacrificially committed to the service of the nation for a better nation.
