TOPIC – TEMPERAMENTAL!

Read: Galatians 5:16-21

MEMORISE: For the flesh lusts against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh (Galatians 5:17a).

EXPOSITION

You should know why you are what you are. The reason you behave the way you’re do is not far-fetched from your generational traits and genetics. You may subconsciously do certain things, of which you don’t want to do. No matter how hard you try, you still find that those are part and parcel of you. Renowned Christian Writers like Tim Lahaye have published lots of works along this line, including ‘Why you Act The Way You Act’, ‘Spirit-Controlled Temperament’, among others.

While some are outgoing, saucy, talkative, touchy, aggressive, many are cool, easy-going, resentful, revengeful, lazy and slow. Yet, we have the highly opinionated, rigid, forceful, brutal, cruel and optimistic ones. All of these have been grouped under one temperament, or the other.

However, a born-again and spirit –filled person becomes transformed from all these. His temperament weaknesses that always overshadow his strengths are supernaturally transformed to strengths (Gal. 5:16). Consider Paul, Peter, John and the other Apostles. We have some who were formerly critical and aggressive. These were some who were very unstable and emotional while were some who were introverts, but still pious and gifted.

There is no generally best temperament and no worst one. The question is: Do you have Spirit-Controlled temperament? All the fruit of the spirit must overtake all your temperamental strengths and weaknesses. That is when you are living the life of Christ. You are lifted as you do this (Gal. 5:22).

PRAYER POINTS

1.  Holy Spirit, work on my natural temperament to make me who you desire me to be.

2.  Lord, I surrender to you: break me down and remould me to the personality that pleases you.

3.  Lord, help husbands and fathers not to be overreacting to attitudes from their wives and children so that homes would be better places to leave in.
