NEVER MAKE DECISION IN ANGER
READ: Esther 2:1-4
Esther 2:1-4 After these things, when the wrath of king Ahasuerus was appeased, he remembered Vashti, and what she had done, and what was decreed against her.
Then said the king’s servants that ministered unto him, Let there be fair young virgins sought for the king:
And let the king appoint officers in all the provinces of his kingdom, that they may gather together all the fair young virgins unto Shushan the palace, to the house of the women unto the custody of Hege the king’s chamberlain, keeper of the women; and let their things for purification be given them:
And let the maiden which pleaseth the king be queen instead of Vashti. And the thing pleased the king; and he did so.
MEMORISE:
After these things, when the wrath of King Ahasuerus subsided, he remembered Vashti, what she had done, and what had been decreed against her (Esther 2:1).
EXPOSITION
Decision-making affects lives, positively or negatively. What happens to you today is a function of the decision(s) you took yesterday, and decisions you take today will determine what happens to you, tomorrow. Your decisions have power to control your life and even your destiny. You should learn to think twice before taking any major decision in life.
A very dangerous time to take any decision is when you are angry. You want to know how dangerous and regrettable it is to take decisions in anger? Ask King Ahaseurus in the Bible. When Queen Vashti abused her position by turning down the king’s order that she should be brought before him to display her beauty to the people on a special occasion, the king was furious, and his anger burned within him. He called for advice out of anger, and was advised to give her royal position to a better lady. His advisors advised him, obviously, for selfish reason (cf. Est. 1:20). The king took the decision in haste and anger. It is likely that on the inside and when he was alone, he might have not been too happy with how he treated his obviously dearly beloved Vashti, when his wrath was appeased (2:1). By that time, there was nothing he could do again because of the irreversible nature of royal order.
This is a serious lesson for us today. When you are angry with your spouse, children, house help, boss at work, business associates, subordinates, friends, etc., do not take rash decisions. Any decision you mistakenly take today would affect the rest of your life in a way or the other (Eccl. 7:9).
PRAYER POINTS
1. I ask for forgiveness, O Lord, for the wrong decisions I had made, and that are bringing me problems.
2. I receive the capacity to control myself in time of anger, in Jesus’ name.
3. Pray that God should help people in government at the various levels to avoid making decisions rashly.
