TOPIC: SEEK AND FIND

TEXT: MATTHEW 7:7-11

MEMORY VERSE: “Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you” (MATTHEW 7:7).

The story of a man and his three children may throw some light on the concept of prayer that is the focus of our meditation today. The older son delayed to table his need until his generous dad gave it to a neighbour’s child who came pleading on his knees for the same thing. The younger son lost a gift that was hid in a heap of clothes to another person for lack of thorough search. The only daughter stood aloof at the door until a stranger banged the door heavily. She went away with the girl’s desire from her dad too.

The acronym “ASK” shows the three levels of prayer that Christians can make to God: “A” for ASK, “S” for SEEK and “K” for KNOCK. The children in the anecdote could not get their desires met from their generous father because they failed to ask, seek and knock. A closed mouth is a closed destiny. Children of God should not give in to self-pity or complaints. Learn to table your troubles before God in persistent prayer until He grants your request.

QUOTE: Table your troubles before God in persistent prayer.

CHALLENGE: A closed mouth is a closed destiny.

PRAYER: Create hunger for prayer in me, Oh Lord.
