being.” The last Adam became a life-giving spirit”.
TEXTS: Matthew 3:11; 1 Corinthians 15:45
AIMS:
i. to trace the relationship of Jesus with the Holy Spirit in the scriptures and
ii. to highlight the continuous work of Christ with God’s people through the agency of
the Holy Spirit
INTRODUCTION:
In the previous study, we had looked at the eternal existence of Christ
and His sameness with the Father. In this study, we shall look at another aspect of the
divine Christ-His sameness with the Holy Spirit who has continued Christ’s work of
redemption in the Church until Christ’s second coming.
STUDY GUIDE/QUESTIONS:
1. In each of the following scriptures, identify the work of the Holy Spirit in relation to
Christ: Matt.3:11; Luke 1:35; Luke 3:21-22; Rom.8:9,11
2. Explain how Jesus and the Holy Spirit are described in these texts? 1 Cor.15:45 (cf.
John 5:21) and1 Peter 1:11. See also 1 John 5:7
3. Relate the ministry of Jesus Christ to that of the Holy Spirit in the continuing
redemption work in the contemporary Church. John 7:37-39; 15:26; 16:13-15; Rom.
8:26-27;
4. Jesus said, “…lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age”. How does God
maintain His presence in the life of the Christian today? 1 Corinthians 12:13; Gal.3:27
CONCLUSION:
The work of Christ’s salvation continues through the Holy Spirit. Indeed
the Holy Spirit is also referred to as “the Spirit of Jesus”; just as Jesus is referred to as
the “quickening Spirit”. The Holy Spirit testifies of Jesus as well as glorifies Him. We see
therefore that just as Christ is of the same essence with the Father, even so He is of the
same essence with the Holy Spirit. It is the unfathomable mystery of the triune God!
FOOD FOR THOUGHT:
