FRIDAY, 21 FEBRUARY
TEXT: GENESIS 1:1-5
TOPIC: BRINGING ORDER INTO DISORDER
One of the most intriguing subjects of debate that kept us stretching our little theological minds in my early days in Bible College was how a God of order could create a world of “disorder” as shown in our text today. Well, one explanation that appeared convincing to us then was found between Genesis 1: 1 and Genesis 1: 2: probably, something happened to the created order.
That is, sin came in through Lucifer’s rebellion in heaven (Isaiah 14: 12-14; Ezekiel 28: 13-17). Today’s devotion is not intended to be a theology class debate but a pointer to sin’s capacity to bring disorder into an orderly life. Bringing order into the disorder seen in Gen. 1: 2, the Spirit of God hovered over the problem and God spoke light into existence. God then separated light from darkness.
Symbolically, it can be said that God’s light took care of the darkness brought about by sin. Jesus is Light and He alone can forgive sin. It is possible that you are facing chaos in life. May be your world appears hazy and uncertain; you are confused. Remember, the Spirit of God is available. Just let Him to hover over the problem. God’s Light will shine through and bring order back into your life!
