Trumpets were often used in calling people to the worship of God or for war. In today’s reading, the trumpet call was to warn the people of Judah of the impending invasion by the enemy’s forces that the locusts’ invasion symbolized. Just as God had allowed the devastation of the crops and land by the invading locusts, so would He allow the invasion and ravaging of the land of Judah by the Assyrian Army?

Ironically, the Assyrians were a wicked pagan nation. But they were used of God to chastise His disobedient people. On the day of the Lord’s judgment, nothing was going to stand in the way of the attacking Assyrian forces who were God’s agents of executing judgment on the sinful nation of Judah. Believers have a duty to warn people about the day of the Lord, the day of God’s coming judgment over sinners.

QUESTION: Are you warning people about the day of the Lord?_

PRAYER: Oh God, help me as I warn people about the approaching day of the Lord’s judgment, in Jesus name, Amen.
