Anglican Church Sunday School Manual For May 17, 2020 :- Topic – Self-existence

STUDY 20
5 Sunday th after Easter May 17,2020

THEME: IN THE NAME OF JESUS CHRIST

SUB-THEME: Attributes of Jesus Christ (3)

TOPIC: Self-existence

MEMORY VERSE: John 5:26 “For as the Father has life in Himself, so He has granted
the Son to have life in Himself”.

TEXTS: John. 5:26; Hebrews 7:16

AIMS:
i. to show Jesus Christ as one with God the Father in creating all things and
ii. to teach that Christ was never created like all other creatures on earth and in
heaven.

INTRODUCTION:
God is the source of all life. He is therefore called the living God, in opposition to idols
which have no life. This means that life in God or God’s existence is not derived from any
other being. All other creatures were created and derive their life and existence from Him.
(Gen 2:7; Psalm 104:29; 30:1-12) But God is not created. He always exists; as He was, so
He is and shall unchangeably always be (Psalm 90:2). The text today exposes to us the
fact that Christ shares the same attribute with God, not being created but like God, exists
by Himself and is one with the Father and the Holy Spirit in Trinity.

STUDY GUIDE/QUESTIONS:
1. Like Psalm 14:1, some atheists have been striving to prove that there is no God. In
your own thinking, who is behind the roaring oceans, (Psalm 46:3) who set the rising
and setting of the sun (Isa 45:6); who created the million stars with the smallest
bigger than the earth? (Psalm 147:1, 4, 5). When were they formed and when will they
expire like man-made products?
2. Gen 1 &2 and John 1:1-3 reveal the creation of all things in heaven and on earth by
God through His word, Jesus Christ. In your own thinking, can/should we ask who
created God?Psalm 90:1-2; Proverb 8:25-26.
3. From the previous two questions, how can you explain the fact that Jesus Christ is
self-existent? John 5:26.
4. How do some religions perceive Jesus Christ today? Ref: Isa 49:7; Mark 6:3.

CONCLUSION: The only Being who was never created but who created all things is God.
Though the fool says there is no God; let that kind of person prove the age of this world,
who created it and when it will expire. Therefore, since Jesus Christ is one in nature and
attributes with God, He was never created. He is without beginning and end. He is the
self-sufficient and self-existent One.

FOOD FOR THOUGHT: Jesus Christ: begotten not made.

MEMORY VERSE: John 5:26 “For as the Father has life in Himself, so He has granted
the Son to have life in Himself”.
