TOPIC: THE MORNING JOY
Read Psalms 30:1-5
[1](A Psalm and Song at the dedication of the house of David.) I will extol thee, O LORD; for thou hast lifted me up, and hast not made my foes to rejoice over me.
[2]O LORD my God, I cried unto thee, and thou hast healed me.
[3]O LORD, thou hast brought up my soul from the grave: thou hast kept me alive, that I should not go down to the pit.
[4]Sing unto the LORD, O ye saints of his, and give thanks at the remembrance of his holiness.
[5]For his anger endureth but a moment; in his favour is life: weeping may endure for a night, but joy cometh in the morning.
MEMORISE: For His anger is but for a moment, His favour is for life; Weeping may endure for a night, But joy comes in the morning (Psalms 30:5)
EXPOSITION
Morning is the early part of the day when men wake up. It is part of divine calendar: created, decreed, evolved, and covenanted. It is differentiated from darkness by light, and is a contemporary of night (cf. Gen. 1:3-5; 8:22; Jer. 33:20,25). Biblically, it is found to be a time to pray (Mk. 1:35), to make a vow (Gen. 28:18), and that of divine visitation, resurrection, revelation and miracle (Lk. 5:4ff; John 21:3ff).
However, morning is also used as a figure for transition from a dark or turbulent season of life to pleasantness. On this, a songwriter says, “Oh, weary pilgrim, lift your head, for joy cometh in the morning! For God in His own words, has said that; Joy comes in the morning! Joy comes in the morning! Joy comes in the morning! Weeping may endure for a night, but joy comes in the morning!”
Psalms 30:1-3 enumerates 5 things that could be taken as nightmarish, such that called for the morning to quickly come.
1. lifted up: that is, rescued from sinking;
2. silencing the foe from rejoicing over me: that is, deliverance from enemy;
3. healed as a result of crying to God: that is, recovery from a deadly ailment;
4. soul brought up from the grave: that is, salvation from near death experience;
5. kept alive taming and shaming the power of death. This Psalms was supposedly used by King David at the dedication of his house (2 Sam. 5:11;7:1).
Whatever our own weeping may be, we should have faith in God that our joy comes in the morning of God’s love, favour and deliverance. Weeping may surely endure for a night, but joy comes in the morning. You don’t need to commit suicide. Your life is worth it. You will rise again. Believe in and accept Jesus Christ as your Lord and Saviour. He is able to turn your sorrow to joy and night to morning.
PRAYER POINTS
1. Thank You, Lord Jesus, for my present tears, which You know and see, and will turn to joy in the morning.
2. Lord, let my night give birth to a glorious morning of praise and victory, in Jesus’ name.
3. Pray against every force of darkness militating against children of ministers of the gospel everywhere.
