TOPIC: I KNOW MY SHEEP

Read John 10:1-5

[1]Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that entereth not by the door into the sheepfold, but climbeth up some other way, the same is a thief and a robber.

[2]But he that entereth in by the door is the shepherd of the sheep.

[3]To him the porter openeth; and the sheep hear his voice: and he calleth his own sheep by name, and leadeth them out.

[4]And when he putteth forth his own sheep, he goeth before them, and the sheep follow him: for they know his voice.

[5]And a stranger will they not follow, but will flee from him: for they know not the voice of strangers.

MEMORISE: And when he brings out his own sheep, he goes before them; and the sheep follow him, for they know his voice (John 10:4)

EXPOSITION

The sheep is a prominent animal in the sacrificial system of Israel (Ex. 29:22; Lev. 3:9). Sheep also symbolises people who are tender and need leadership and unity and may be scattered (1 Kgs. 22:17); the reason for shepherds. Christians are the sheep of God separated out of billions of people in the world. You become a sheep the moment you gave your life to Jesus. From that point, you are expected to be tameable, gentle and obedient to the Master’s voice.

You ought to recognise your Father’s voice in the midst of voices in the world. If you do, Jesus also knows those who belong to Him. Didn’t He say in Matt. 7:21 “Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only he who does the will of my Father who is in heaven”? This He said because there are some who do not belong to the sheepfold and are claiming to be there. But by their fruits, they shall be known.

False prophets and people abound everywhere and are using the name of Jesus to defraud unsuspecting members of the public and the church. There are some who want to only use Jesus’ name and all about Him like drugs to cure their ailments. Some also think He is an ATM where they go to withdraw money when they are broke. But on that day, He will tell them “I never knew you. Away from me, you evildoers!” The Lord knows His own people and so preserves them to the end. To enjoy the absolute protection and blessings of the Great Shepherd, we must remain in obedience to His leadings. Don’t be like the straying dog that refuses to listen to the hunter’s whistle!

Some people do not understand/know themselves. Others have wrongly classified themselves. Are you a sheep or a goat (Jn. 8:39-41, 42-47)?

PRAYER POINTS

1. Lord, open my ears to always hear your voice so I don’t stray away.

2. Oh Lord, help to bring together homes that are already scattered due to wolves entering them.

3. Father, continue to expose fake prophets who daily deceive and kill Your own sheep, due to their ignorance.
