– World Car-Free Day

TOPIC: HOLY SPIRIT – VEHICLE FOR THE GOOD NEWS

Read 1 Peter 1:12
_Unto whom it was revealed, that not unto themselves, but unto us they did minister the things, which are now reported unto you by them that have preached the gospel unto you with the Holy Ghost sent down from heaven; which things the angels desire to look into._

MEMORISE: And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance (Acts 2:4)

EXPOSITION
Our topic today, Holy Spirit – Vehicle for the Good News is relevant today, which happens to be the World Car-Free Day. It is car-free day but we cannot live a Holy-Spirt-free life. Most relevantly, the impact of the Holy Spirit cannot be overemphasised in proper dissemination of the good news of Jesus Christ. Jesus knew this fact when He instructed His disciples never to leave Jerusalem until they had been endued with Holy Spirit and power. And when they waited, the power fell on them (Acts 1:8; 2:4). They reached their world for Jesus with that impetus, even right from the day of the endowment. An undeniable evidence of this fact is the effect of the once-timid Peter’s sermon on the listeners, such that 3,000 of them accepted the Lordship of Jesus and were added to His Church. That is what the Holy Spirit does in preaching, teaching, evangelism, and missions.

The Holy Spirit helps believers to break the barriers of culture, tongues, colours, education, status, etc. Paul particularly had a ministry to the Gentiles (Acts 9:15,16; 13:1,9). The dichotomy among Jews, Samaritans and Gentiles, the circumcised and the un-circumcised gave way when the Holy Spirit came into force in the lives of those who preached the gospel. Thus, the gospel was freely preached in all lands, regions, and continents of the world. The Holy Spirit gave boldness to Peter who was unlearned (Acts 4:13), joy to Paul who was in chains (2 Cor. 11:23-28), yet preaching the gospel. Rejoice in the Lord always. Again I will say, rejoice! This is the language of the gospel.

For us in the church today, what is our driving force? Money, educational attainments, charisma, gifts, etc. Many know all the letters of the Bible but do not obey them. Do you want to go far for Christ? Then, seek His power, get hungered for the Holy Spirit, study the Word of truth, pray and fast without ceasing, if you must survive the pressure of the world against the gospel of Jesus Christ. You will get home safely in Jesus’ name.

PRAYER POINTS
1. Lord, fill me with your Spirit so I can go far for You, preaching the gospel.
2. Lord, remove all obstacles on my way which constantly hinders the spread of the gospel in my hand.
3. Father, help the church to wake up again and be alive to her sole responsibility of spreading the good news of Jesus Christ.
