In Genesis 41, Joseph interpreted Pharaoh’s dream. The meaning of the dream was that there would be 7 years of plenty followed by 7 years of famine. The instruction of the Lord came through Joseph to preserve the land of Egypt. In the 7 years of plenty, they were to save a fifth (20%) of all the country’s produce. Pharaoh recognised the wisdom in Joseph’s instruction and mandated the instructions to be carried out throughout the land.
When 7 years of plenty ended, 7 years of famine came, but their savings culture from the first 7 years preserved them. The famine caught every other neighbouring nation and there was drought everywhere, but they had plenty. Other nations looked to them for survival. This made Egypt an economic powerhouse and they determined the fate of other nations. They made money selling their preserved agricultural produce to other nations. When those other nations had no more money to offer, they began to exchange their lands for food, thus enslaving themselves to Egypt.
That was a strategy that came through divine instruction. When the 7 years of famine were over, wealth had multiplied incredibly for Egypt. Obeying just one instruction brought enormous wealth, increase, and greatness to a country. At the Dream City, we have tagged this strategy, ‘the Joseph account’ – save a minimum of 20% from your income in a non-withdrawal account for a minimum of 7 years. By doing this, you would have positioned yourself to emerge as an economic giant.
PRAYER: Father, I receive discipline against spending all that I earn. Instead, I will save to achieve the economic future You have for me. Amen
