TOPIC: OH FAITHLESS GENERATION!

Read Exodus 16:13-20

[13]And it came to pass, that at even the quails came up, and covered the camp: and in the morning the dew lay round about the host.

[14]And when the dew that lay was gone up, behold, upon the face of the wilderness there lay a small round thing, as small as the hoar frost on the ground.

[15]And when the children of Israel saw it, they said one to another, It is manna: for they wist not what it was. And Moses said unto them, This is the bread which the LORD hath given you to eat.

[16]This is the thing which the LORD hath commanded, Gather of it every man according to his eating, an omer for every man, according to the number of your persons; take ye every man for them which are in his tents.

[17]And the children of Israel did so, and gathered, some more, some less.

[18]And when they did mete it with an omer, he that gathered much had nothing over, and he that gathered little had no lack; they gathered every man according to his eating.

[19]And Moses said, Let no man leave of it till the morning.

[20]Notwithstanding they hearkened not unto Moses; but some of them left of it until the morning, and it bred worms, and stank: and Moses was wroth with them.

MEMORISE: Give us this day our daily bread (Matthew 6:11)

EXPOSITION

The Israelites had worked with God for a while, yet, little did they know about Him; hence their disobedience occasioned by lack of faith. God’s desire is to feed us on daily basis so we will have every reason to wait on Him every other day. But greed, covetousness and faithlessness have been the enemies of man that God is still battling with till today. Our quest to gain the whole world stems out of our desire to live independent of God and so we overworked ourselves, putting undue pressure on others. Believers must be aware that every effort we make outside of God will amount to waste. No wonder the chaos and the cataclysm in the world today. The fool gathers wealth not knowing who will spend it (Ps. 39:6; Eccl. 2:18; Lk. 12:21). Do you take time to ponder on these Words in the Bible? Why did Solomon in all His getting declared “all is vanity and a vexation of the spirit (Eccl. 1:14)? Have you noticed that the same thing that decayed in their barn was still fresh the following morning?

“Then he said to them, “This is what the Lord has said: ‘Tomorrow is a Sabbath rest, a holy Sabbath to the Lord. Bake what you will bake today, and boil what you will boil; and lay up for yourselves all that remains, to be kept until morning.'” So they laid it up till morning, as Moses commanded; and it did not stink, nor were there any worms in it” (vv. 23,24). Those things we haste to gather are ever there for us if we would wait for God’s time. It is a pity how many Christians have lost their faith and their lives today because they want to get rich quickly. Remember we brought nothing into the world neither are we going to take anything out of it (1 Tm. 6:7). God cares for you. Beware of covetousness.

PRAYER POINTS

1. Lord, increase my faith in You alone.

2. Oh Lord, give me the spirit and power of total reliance on You.

3. Father, rebuke and send out the spirit of avariciousness from the rank and file of the church and our nation.
