– International Day of the Girl Child
TOPIC: FAITH AND BOLDNESS IN PRAYER
Read Psalms 27:7-14
[7]Hear, O LORD, when I cry with my voice: have mercy also upon me, and answer me.
[8]When thou saidst, Seek ye my face; my heart said unto thee, Thy face, LORD, will I seek.
[9]Hide not thy face far from me; put not thy servant away in anger: thou hast been my help; leave me not, neither forsake me, O God of my salvation.
[10]When my father and my mother forsake me, then the LORD will take me up.
[11]Teach me thy way, O LORD, and lead me in a plain path, because of mine enemies.
[12]Deliver me not over unto the will of mine enemies: for false witnesses are risen up against me, and such as breathe out cruelty.
[13]I had fainted, unless I had believed to see the goodness of the LORD in the land of the living.
[14]Wait on the LORD: be of good courage, and he shall strengthen thine heart: wait, I say, on the LORD.
MEMORISE: Wait on the Lord; be of good courage, and He shall strengthen your heart; wait, I say, on the Lord! (Psalms 27:14)
EXPOSITION
Unceasing prayer is a measure of God’s standard. No matter how we pray, pray without ceasing (1 Thess. 5:17) is always ahead of us. Duty demands that we should never lower the value of intercession in rescuing souls from hell, since Jesus came to seek the lost (Lk. 19:10), and this remains the platform of salvation for all believers.
How cognisant are we of the marvelous importance of the salvation of s single soul in the presence of the Lord (Lk. 15:7,10)? It is in us to demonstrate the passion of doing everything at our disposal to win hell-going souls to Jesus. For our prayers offered in faith do not fail, they avail (Jas. 5:17). John Knox bore all Scotland up on the wings of his faith. He cried, “Give me Scotland or I die.” Although, the enemy does not easily relinquish his hold on men, with our courageous prayers to the Lord Jesus, our Saviour, they would be snatched.
Today is the International Day of the Girl Child. Let us refer to the story of a woman with 3 daughters who were so wayward and utterly indifferent to every appeal to yield them to Christ. In sheer desperation, the mother said to her worldly minded girls: “I am going to shut myself in to pray and fast until you give yourselves to the Lord.” They laughed and said mother, “It will do no good.” But she began, and before the hours and days wore, they came one after the other to knock and shout, “Mother,” with weeping and wailing, “I am ready to accept Christ Jesus.” The woman doubtlessly believed God for the salvation of her girls. When faith was directed through the channel of prayer and fasting, quick result was achieved. It is necessary to offer intercessory prayer repeatedly, until lives are changed.
With the promises of God before the saints, we can all shout, “O God do what You said (cf. 2 Sam. 7:25) until the flood gates of salvation are lifted and many precious souls are watered with life-giving stream” (1 Jn. 5:14-15)
PRAYER POINTS
1. Thank God for giving us the power of prayer, and for answers to our prayers.
2. O Lord, give me the courage and conviction to regularly intercede for the lost.
3. Pray that churches would be more committed to intercession for, and reaching out to the lost, far and near.
