IT IS WELL

Read: 2 Kings 4:18-23

2 Kings 4:18-23 The child grew, and one day he went out to his father, who was with the reapers.

He said to his father, “My head! My head!” His father told a servant, “Carry him to his mother.”

After the servant had lifted him up and carried him to his mother, the boy sat on her lap until noon, and then he died.

She went up and laid him on the bed of the man of God, then shut the door and went out.

She called her husband and said, “Please send me one of the servants and a donkey so I can go to the man of God quickly and return.”

“Why go to him today?” he asked. “It’s not the New Moon or the Sabbath.” “That’s all right,” she said.

MEMORISE:

Why go to him today?” he asked. “It’s not the New Moon or the Sabbath.” “That’s all right,” she said. (2 Kings 4:23).

EXPOSITION

Believers are assured that when they face problems and challenges, solution had been made to cater for them. “I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.” (Jn. 16:33). Our Redeemer knows we will be faced with challenges, and had in advance, made a way out (Heb. 4:15-16). When Jesus Christ faced unpleasant situations. We are expected to be like Him in all things. With the knowledge of the ready-made solution to our challenges in life, our words should always be, “it is well.” We should have the confidence that He is with us to the end, as He promised.

King Jehoshaphat was challenged by the might of his enemy. He felt not threatened because he knew Him to be the faithful God who will always do what He says. He and his countrymen believed God and were not terrified by the undoubtedly greater strength of their enemies, but persuaded by what God said.

When believers feel isolated, alone and abandoned, even by our very best friends, God sees, understand, thinks, and cares for us. He keeps us in His thought and His help is very near. Gid wants believers to take courage because of the inevitable struggles they would face, they will not be alone. He will be with them in whatever they may face here on earth.

The Shunemite was a woman faced with the worst of situation. Yet, her response was “it is well.” A song reads, “When peace like a river attender my way; When sorrow like sea billions roll; whatever my lot, Thou hast taught me to know, it is well, it is well with my soul.”
