SORROWFUL ADVENTURE

Read: 2 Timothy 4:10

2 Timothy 4:10 For Demas, because he loved this world, has deserted me and has gone to Thessalonica. Crescens has gone to Galatia, and Titus to Dalmatia.

MEMORISE:

The sorrows of those who run after another god shall multiply; (Psalms 16:4).

EXPOSITION

It’s unfortunate and regretting to have believers forsaking their faith in Christ for the mundane things of this world. Demas did. God is saying the same about some of his servant today, they have forsaken God and the ministry committed to them and begin to pursue fame, popularity, prosperity, pleasure and materialism.

When we refuse to carry out the assignment given to us for any other thing, it is a sorrowful adventure. Running after and pursuing the irrelevances in place of the relevance, it is a sorrowful adventure. He who value the worthless and pleasures of life is on a sorrowful adventure 1 John 2:15-17. Our love for the world should be that the lost were found and the unsaved saved. Jesus Christ valued the lives of the people more than what they had (Lk. 19:10).

Sorrowful adventures usually lead to everlasting regret unless there is repentance and restoration. Their pains increase because only Christ is Balm in Gilead. Return to Him before shame, ridicule and reproach set in.

An adventure that took a believer away from the presence of God is a bad one, worth not considering. Any sheep that wanders away from the protection by the shepherd gets injured or killed by wild animal. David was able to rescue the sheep from bear because it stays within. Many believers get injured while some get killed because they ventilated outside the covering of the Master.

That action you are contemplating, think about it very well and see how it affects your relationship with God. There is no joy, or better life outside of Christ but a sorrowful life.

PRAYER POINTS

1. Holy Spirit divine, please work upon me, help me retrace my step where ever I have gone astray.

2. Lord, let not the pleasures, cares and challenges of the world shift my focus from You.

3. Pray that God will use you to spread the good tiding of Christ to the world.
