WHAT GOD NEEDS FROM ME (1)

Read: Daniel 4:28-36

Daniel 4:28-36  All this came upon the king Nebuchadnezzar.

At the end of twelve months he walked in the palace of the kingdom of Babylon.

The king spake, and said, Is not this great Babylon, that I have built for the house of the kingdom by the might of my power, and for the honour of my majesty?

While the word was in the king’s mouth, there fell a voice from heaven, saying, O king Nebuchadnezzar, to thee it is spoken; The kingdom is departed from thee.

And they shall drive thee from men, and thy dwelling shall be with the beasts of the field: they shall make thee to eat grass as oxen, and seven times shall pass over thee, until thou know that the most High ruleth in the kingdom of men, and giveth it to whomsoever he will.

The same hour was the thing fulfilled upon Nebuchadnezzar: and he was driven from men, and did eat grass as oxen, and his body was wet with the dew of heaven, till his hairs were grown like eagles feathers, and his nails like birds’ claws.

And at the end of the days I Nebuchadnezzar lifted up mine eyes unto heaven, and mine understanding returned unto me, and I blessed the most High, and I praised and honoured him that liveth for ever, whose dominion is an everlasting dominion, and his kingdom is from generation to generation:

And all the inhabitants of the earth are reputed as nothing: and he doeth according to his will in the army of heaven, and among the inhabitants of the earth: and none can stay his hand, or say unto him, What doest thou?

At the same time my reason returned unto me; and for the glory of my kingdom, mine honour and brightness returned unto me; and my counsellors and my lords sought unto me; and I was established in my kingdom, and excellent majesty was added unto me.

MEMORISE:

Now I Nebuchadnezzar, praise and extol and honour the king of heaven, all of whose works are truth, and His ways justice. And those who walk in pride He is able to put down (Daniel 4:37)

EXPOSITION

We all have needs, and they vary. Maslow propounded that human needs are in levels. There are lower level needs and middle and higher needs. When a lower need has been met, higher needs find their ways in, and replace the met need. Relating that to motivation on the job, an employee gets motivated when his current need is met and immediately begins to experience dissatisfaction by the emergence of a higher need that smuggles itself in. The big question is, does God also have needs that we have to meet for Him? The truth is that God expects a variety of things from man, He had created for specific and special purposes:

Deep knowledge of God: God has already spoken, “Heaven is my throne, and earth is my footstool, where is the house that you will build Me? And where is the place of my rest. For all those things My hand has made and all those things exist says the Lord”… And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a debased mind, to do those things which are not fitting (Isa. 66:1, Rom. 1:28). God does not need you to build house, buy cars, credit his account or put food on His table, however, He requires that man retains Him in his knowledge. How could that be?

You have to consciously know that God is, and that He is in charge of all affairs in heaven and earth. You don’t have to be foolish like the atheists who eat God’s food, live God’s life and thread on the ground He made. Yet, they keep claiming God does not exist. The biggest fools are those that claim there is no God (Psalm 53:1).

Nebuchadnezzar foolishly thought he became what he became by his human strength not knowing that God was the brain behind his successes and reign. He suffered for his ignorance. You don’t have to learn that God is God and rules in the affair of men in the hard way like Nebuchadnezzar.

The fact that God gave some people over to debased mind does not mean they would be free from His judgment, only He allows them to continue with their foolishness and ignorance to face the fiery fire of His judgment, sooner or later. You need to seek to know and acknowledge God.
