DO SOMETHING MEANINGFUL WITH YOUR HANDS

Read: Genesis 26:12-16

Genesis 26:12-16 Then Isaac sowed in that land, and received in the same year an hundredfold: and the Lord blessed him.

And the man waxed great, and went forward, and grew until he became very great:

For he had possession of flocks, and possession of herds, and great store of servants: and the Philistines envied him.

For all the wells which his father’s servants had digged in the days of Abraham his father, the Philistines had stopped them, and filled them with earth.

And Abimelech said unto Isaac, Go from us; for thou art much mightier than we.

MEMORISE:

Then Isaac sowed in that land, and received in the same year an hundredfold: and the Lord blessed him. (Genesis 26:12)

EXPOSITION

Prosperity is the condition of enjoying wealth, success, or good fortune. Prosperity and success look synonymous. Success is the achievement of something planned or  attempted. From the standpoint of God, prosperity or success doesn’t consist in amassing wealth or material gains. Prosperity is having all that God has programmed for one to use for His glory and for the benefit of humanity here on earth. Success is knowing that God wants you to do for Him, doing it, and pursuing it to logical conclusion (cf. Jn.9:4). These demand conscious efforts on the part of those who desires to be prosperous or successful.

Prosperity is more than just praying, and  praying, alone. Lots of people hop from mountain to mountains, church programmes to church programmes, praying for prosperity. It is more than that. You need to do something meaningful and godly with your hands. God’s plan is to bless only those doing the right things at the right time. He doesn’t bless nothing. He multiplies what man has (cf. 2 Kgs. 4:1ff). Hope you are not the type who complains of lacking basic amenities but but are fond of sleeping when you should be working?

Isaac’s industrious attitude indicts some of us, today. He had been commanded by God to stay in Gerar, despite the intense famine that hit the land (Gen. 26:1ff). God had promised to bless him in the land. Though there is no clear record of God telling him to work; Isaac put to bear his initiative and readiness to work; he sowed in that land. He wasn’t idle.

Seest thou a man diligent in his business? he shall stand before kings; he shall not stand before mean men (Prov.22:29) is true of everyone who chooses not to be lazy in life. Isaacs testimony that he: Then Isaac sowed in that land, and received in the same year an hundredfold: and the Lord blessed him. And the man waxed great, and went forward, and grew until he became very great:* (Gen. 26:12-13). Can be  yours if only you choose that path of diligence. Are you ready?

PRAYER POINTS

1. I refuse to be Lazy, in Jesus name.

2. Lord, teach and empower me to do the right things at the right times with my hands.

3. Lord, rebuke the Spirit of slothfulness making youths to get involved in ‘Yahoo-Yahoo’ and other fraudulent practices to make ends meet.
