(World Leprosy Day)

EXPLOITS OF FAITH.

Read 2Kings 5:9-14

[9]So Naaman came with his horses and with his chariot, and stood at the door of the house of Elisha.

[10]And Elisha sent a messenger unto him, saying, Go and wash in Jordan seven times, and thy flesh shall come again to thee, and thou shalt be clean.

[11]But Naaman was wroth, and went away, and said, Behold, I thought, He will surely come out to me, and stand, and call on the name of the LORD his God, and strike his hand over the place, and recover the leper.

[12]Are not Abana and Pharpar, rivers of Damascus, better than all the waters of Israel? may I not wash in them, and be clean? So he turned and went away in a rage.

[13]And his servants came near, and spake unto him, and said, My father, if the prophet had bid thee do some great thing, wouldest thou not have done it? how much rather then, when he saith to thee, Wash, and be clean?

[14]Then went he down, and dipped himself seven times in Jordan, according to the saying of the man of God: and his flesh came again like unto the flesh of a little child, and he was clean.

MEMORISE: For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also (James. 2:26).

EXPOSITION

Today is this year’s World Leprosy is a tropical disease mainly affecting the skin and nerves, causing tissue change and,  in severe cases loss of sensation and disfigurement. It is transmitted following close personal contact, and experts say it has an incubation period of 1-30 years. Someone who experienced such a devastating situation in the Bible, is Naaman who was a military man with class and influence, and had successfully led the Syrian army to national and international battles and Victories. This great warrior was down with Leprosy, a  sickness that quarantined him. Naaman, in this state, was highly incapacitated, with ripple effects on him, was highly army, and government. No wonder the king of Syrian sought solution for his general’s predicament.

Challenges are unpleasant facts that are parts of our daily lives and activities. They may be health challenges, relationship crisis, financial issues, or any other. Sickness, like in the case of Naaman, or any other form of life crisis, is not unique to anyone. It can hit anyone, whether the rich, like Naaman, or the privileged, like Lazarus.

Life challenges can overpower man’s ability and intelligence. It is at these points that faith comes to play Faith operates in what you cannot do by your ability. Faith is seeking and allowing God’s  ability to replace yours. It depends on God’s ability. It is “Forsaking All, I Trust Him “(Christ Jesus).”

Naaman never saw the possibility of becoming healed just by jumping in the Jordan River seven times. Of course, it was medically implausible; no scientific basis. Merely jumping into a river for healing? Thank God for the good people around Naaman who helped him build up his faith. He acted on God’s instruction through Elijah, then came his healing.

Faith is believing and acting on divine instructions without reservation. If we can step into our challenges with God in our sides then our victory is settled. May our faith stay active and alive in Christ. Amen.

PRAYER POINTS:

1. Lord, make my faith an active one.

2. Lord, every challenge in my life, let it receive Your attention, now, in Jesus’name.

3. Lord, let every circumstances threatening our homes be terminated, in Jesus’name.
