MANAGE YOUR MONEY WELL (II)

Read: Like 6:26-30

Luke 6:26-30 Woe to (alas for) you when everyone speaks fairly and handsomely of you and praises you, for even so their forefathers did to the false prophets.

But I say to you who are listening now to Me: [in order to heed, make it a practice to] love your enemies, treat well (do good to, act nobly toward) those who detest you and pursue you with hatred,

Invoke blessings upon and pray for the happiness of those who curse you, implore God’s blessing (favor) upon those who abuse you [who revile, reproach, disparage, and high-handedly misuse you].

To the one who strikes you on the jaw or cheek, offer the other jaw or cheek also; and from him who takes away your outer garment, do not withhold your undergarment as well.

Give away to everyone who begs of you [who is in want of necessities], and of him who takes away from you your goods, do not demand or require them back again.

MEMORISE:

The rich rule over the poor, and the borrower is servant to the lender. (Proverbs 22:7)

EXPOSITION

As we continue in this study, money management, we are to take the critical look at some other facts in managing our money in order for us to have financial freedom and avoid financial problems.

The next one is to avoid borrowing, especially for the pleasure, luxuries or impression. If you begin to buy what you don’t need (i.e wants), time is coming when you will need what you cannot buy. The Bible does not support act of borrowing as Romans 13:8 says, “Owe no one anything…” In the Old Testament, borrowing is a sign curse and poverty (Duet. 15:6; 28:12) Psychologically and emotionally, a borrower is indeed a servant to the lender, because anytime you meet someone you owe money unexpectedly or you receive a phone call from him when you do not  expect, you suddenly become  trembled. Careless borrowing can ruin your business and financial life. Even if you want to use other people’s money (OPM) for running business, make sure you do your feasibility studies very well before you dabble into it. God can never support acts of borrowing for burial,  marriage, socials, etc. (2 kings 4:3,7).

The Word of God support being a lender. The Scripture say, You shall lend to many nations. (Deut.15:6;28:12). Our Lord Jesus teaches us to do the same: Give to everyone who ask of you… (Luke 6:30). The master even wants us to lend to others without expecting any return (Lk.6:34). Having ability to lend to other, is a sign of blessing and richness in the Bible. It is not the Bible doctrine to lend to people with interest in mind (Exo.22:25; Deut. 23:20; Prov.28:8). But learn to lend to people with wisdom, if you have ability to do so. As we have money management in mind, avoid a kind of leading that can lead you to financial problem, if you are unable to get the money back in time or any longer. You are to always cut your coat according to your size.

PRAYER POINTS

1. I break the covenant of borrowing to do good things in life, in Jesus name.

2. I shall be a lender, not a borrowing in Jesus name.

3. Help us Lord to handle money matters with divine wisdom in our dealing with others.
