WORTHLESS PEOPLE, WORTHLESS SERVICE

Read:  Isaiah 1:1-13

Isaiah 1:1-13  The vision of Isaiah the son of Amoz, which he saw concerning Judah and Jerusalem in the days of Uzziah, Jotham, Ahaz, and Hezekiah, kings of Judah.

Hear, O heavens, and give ear, O earth: for the LORD hath spoken, I have nourished and brought up children, and they have rebelled against me.

The ox knoweth his owner, and the ass his master’s crib: but Israel doth not know, my people doth not consider.

Ah sinful nation, a people laden with iniquity, a seed of evildoers, children that are corrupters: they have forsaken the LORD, they have provoked the Holy One of Israel unto anger, they are gone away backward.

Why should ye be stricken any more? ye will revolt more and more: the whole head is sick, and the whole heart faint.

From the sole of the foot even unto the head there is no soundness in it; but wounds, and bruises, and putrifying sores: they have not been closed, neither bound up, neither mollified with ointment.

Your country is desolate, your cities are burned with fire: your land, strangers devour it in your presence, and it is desolate, as overthrown by strangers.

And the daughter of Zion is left as a cottage in a vineyard, as a lodge in a garden of cucumbers, as a besieged city.

Except the LORD of hosts had left unto us a very small remnant, we should have been as Sodom, and we should have been like unto Gomorrah.

Hear the word of the LORD, ye rulers of Sodom; give ear unto the law of our God, ye people of Gomorrah.

To what purpose is the multitude of your sacrifices unto me? saith the LORD: I am full of the burnt offerings of rams, and the fat of fed beasts; and I delight not in the blood of bullocks, or of lambs, or of he goats.

When ye come to appear before me, who hath required this at your hand, to tread my courts?

Bring no more vain oblations; incense is an abomination unto me; the new moons and sabbaths, the calling of assemblies, I cannot away with; it is iniquity, even the solemn meeting.

MEMORISE:

Who is there even among you who would shut the doors, so that you would not Kindle fire on My altar in vain? I have no pleasure in you,” says the Lord of hosts “Nor will I accept an offering from your hands. (Malachi 1:10)

EXPOSITION

Everyone wants the best of life, including the wicked. God Himself desires to have the best of humans as His children, and that is why He is doing everything necessary to satisfy us daily. Is this always working out for Him? The Isrealites, amongst the rest of the world enjoyed God’s special providence, yet did not reciprocate in putting up encouraging habits. What is the need for the sacrifices and rituals by the Lord’s people that are devoid of obedience and genuine repentance? God does not have pleasure in it. What has God not done for His own special people (Deut. 29.4-8;1Pet. 2:9)? But it is a pity how is the God-loved children made themselves worthless before Him and the whole world. How can God’s people become worthless? By forsaking Him for another thing; sinning with impunity, despising Him,  serving idols, oppressing one another, being ungrateful, and no amount of disciplinary measures suffices to bring them to order.

Today’s Church is not different, despite the sophisticated and modern ways of worship to their own shame. We have all left God in the threshold while dancing nakedly  to songs formed from the pit of hel. Our disgusting attitudes, and outlook have sent God away farther from the Church. We confess Him openly to deny Him in our closets. We want to please ourselves at the expense of God, carry offerings to the altar in a celebrated way even when our hearts are not right with Him. It is high time we came back to our senses and return to the Creator. Remember that glorious morning will soon be here!

PRAYER POINT:

1. Lord, please have mercy on me and forgive me where I have given You anything less than quality -money, service, time.

2. Lord, have mercy on our youths and children who are being taken away by development in technology that tends to change the ancient landmark of our fathers in faith.

3. O Lord, return to our services as we have resolved to give You our best as a people and Church.
