PUT OFF THAT FOREIGN APPAREL

Read:  Zephaniah 1:1-8

Zephaniah 1:1-8 The word of the Lord which came unto Zephaniah the son of Cushi, the son of Gedaliah, the son of Amariah, the son of Hizkiah, in the days of Josiah the son of Amon, king of Judah.

I will utterly consume all things from off the land, saith the Lord.

I will consume man and beast; I will consume the fowls of the heaven, and the fishes of the sea, and the stumbling blocks with the wicked: and I will cut off man from off the land, saith the Lord.

I will also stretch out mine hand upon Judah, and upon all the inhabitants of Jerusalem; and I will cut off the remnant of Baal from this place, and the name of the Chemarims with the priests;

And them that worship the host of heaven upon the housetops; and them that worship and that swear by the Lord, and that swear by Malcham;

And them that are turned back from the Lord; and those that have not sought the Lord, nor enquired for him.

Hold thy peace at the presence of the Lord God: for the day of the Lord is at hand: for the Lord hath prepared a sacrifice, he hath bid his guests.

And it shall come to pass in the day of the Lord’s sacrifice, that I will punish the princes, and the king’s children, and all such as are clothed with strange apparel.

MEMORISE:

And he answered and spake unto those that stood before him, saying, Take away the filthy garments from him. And unto him he said, Behold, I have caused thine iniquity to pass from thee, and I will clothe thee with change of raiment. (Zechariah 3:4).

EXPOSITION

Globalisation ought to be a plus to the world, as the world is becoming a global village, more and more, by the day. Talking about a topic like this on this International Programmer’s Day isn’t out of the way. After all, programmer are those doing the designing or writing of computer programmes, hence their significance in the globalisation through computer.

But it is a great irony that the leading horse has got all other horses yo stray into the pit. Christians are pilgrims, separated unto Christ’s holiness and righteousness. As such, we must distance ourselves from the ungodly system of iniquity, which are abomination to the Lord. It is a pity that those chosen by God to be His ambassadors have mingled themselves with the rest, polluting themselves with strange religions, which are strange because their ways are not God-approved, not heavenward and God-glorifying. Those who worship strange gods are abomination to God.

There are so many evils associated with strange religion. They include immortality of all sorts (e.g. temple prostitution in the ancient world), lies, injustice, corruption, inordinate ambitions, etc. (cf. 1 Cor.6:9,10). You must put off unwholesome traditions,  dressing, and  attitudes, as they are not fitting for children of the Holy God. Hope we have not changed from our first love for crucified Christ? Don’t forget that friendship with the world is enmity with God (Jas. 4:4,5).

Many of today’s bishops and pastors know how far they go to be ordained as such. Are they better than the politicians who enter oaths and ocultic groups before they could secure tickets for their positions? Remember if you are strange to God, you are not welcomed in His palace, and birds of the air are waiting to prey on you (Rev.19:17). May this never be your lot. ‘Amen’ alone won’t solve it. Put off all foreign garments and put on Christ’s white robe.

PRAYER POINTS:

1. Lord, please disrobe me from any ungodly garments, character, today.

2. Lord, clothe me with the garments of righteousness, in Jesus name.

3. Father Lord, deliver Your ministers from every disgraceful act that tarnishes the image of Your Church.
