YOU CAN’T DO IT AS YOU LIKE

Read: Exodus 25:1-9

Exodus 25:1-9  And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying,

Speak unto the children of Israel, that they bring me an offering: of every man that giveth it willingly with his heart ye shall take my offering.

And this is the offering which ye shall take of them; gold, and silver, and brass,

And blue, and purple, and scarlet, and fine linen, and goats’ hair,

And rams’ skins dyed red, and badgers’ skins, and shittim wood,

Oil for the light, spices for anointing oil, and for sweet incense,

Onyx stones, and stones to be set in the ephod, and in the breastplate.

And let them make me a sanctuary; that I may dwell among them.

According to all that I shew thee, after the pattern of the tabernacle, and the pattern of all the instruments thereof, even so shall ye make it.

MEMORISE:

According to all that I show you, that is, the pattern of the tabernacle and the pattern of all its furnishings, just so you shall make it (Exodus 25:9).

EXPOSITION

While it is expedient to add your skills, expertise, creativity and innovative ability to whatever thing you are doing to make it worthwhile, you can’t do God’s work as you like, or to your own taste. God has taste and you must do His work to His taste, since you can’t be skilled or competent more than God. It must also be noted that one of the banes of this generation is the willingness to satisfy our desires above pleasing God.

God clearly told Moses: ‘According to all that I show you, that is, the pattern of the Tabernacle and the pattern of all its furnishings, just so you shall make it’ (v.9) What is the implication of this? was God saying Moses did not know anything, that he had nothing to contribute? God was not rendering Moses a non-entity, in fact He didn’t appreciate or tolerate mediocrity. Yet, He is perfect in His ways, and His work, which is perfect, must be done in His own perfect way. No one can add to it or remove from it. An attempt to do so always invites His wrath.

According to all that I show you… is referring to a specific pattern that must be followed. God is clear, specific, precise, perfect and detailed. There is no confusion in God, He is neither confused nor does He confuse anyone, who steadily follows Him all the way. Do not attempt to go contrary to what God is showing, and don’t look at any other pictures or pattern, either self-made, man-made, or devil-made to do God’s work. As you are complying and conforming, many great benefits await you.

PRAYER POINTS

1. Lord, help me not to be a self-willed son of Yours, let Your Will be all that I want to do.

2. Let me not take away my eyes from the pictures You are showing to me on how I should do Your work.

3. Deliver Your servants from patterning their lives and ministry after what is popular and acceptable by man’s standard.
