WILDERNESS EXPERIENCE IN LIFE (II1)

Read: Exodus 8:27-30

Exodus 8:27-30  We will go three days’ journey into the wilderness, and sacrifice to the LORD our God, as he shall command us.

And Pharaoh said, I will let you go, that ye may sacrifice to the LORD your God in the wilderness; only ye shall not go very far away: intreat for me.

And Moses said, Behold, I go out from thee, and I will intreat the LORD that the swarms of flies may depart from Pharaoh, from his servants, and from his people, to morrow: but let not Pharaoh deal deceitfully any more in not letting the people go to sacrifice to the LORD.

And Moses went out from Pharaoh, and intreated the LORD.

MEMORISE:

We will go three days’ journey into wilderness and sacrifice to the LORD our God as He will command us (Exodus 8:27)

EXPOSITION

At Exodus, there is a story of a hectic journey. If lsrael must journey with God in the wilderness, she must prepare for walking in agreement with His terms. They will walk together, eat together, and fellowship together. ‘Can two walk together, unless they are agreed?’ (Amos 3:3) As they prepared their journey with God, they ate the Passover with certain instructions: ‘And thus you shall eat it: with a belt on your waist, your sandals on your feet, and your staff in your hand. So you shall eat it in haste. It is the Lord’s Passover’ (Exod. 12:11). They walked and ate with God at Sinai…. ‘So they saw God, and they ate and drank’ (Exod. 24:11).

While Christians are not called to literal walking to a geographical promised land as the lsraelites were, we are called for a symbolic walk and eating with God. As Christians, we are called to walk in the Spirit (Rom. 8:5; Gal. 5:25), walk in the Light (1 Jn. 1 :7; Eph. 5:8), walk in love (2 Jn. 6), and walk by faith (2 Cor. 5:7).

As you prepare to walk with the Lord today in the wilderness of life, how ready are you to walk in Spirit, in Light, in love, and by faith? Remember: you can’t walk it alone. It is either you walk it with the Way, the Truth, and the Life (Jn. 14:6), and get to Your God-given destiny (your Promised Land, immediately and ultimately), or walk it alone, and the otherwise happens. God forbid! Jesus already went through the wilderness experiences for you. So, He alone can help you overcome the thick and thin of the journey: ‘For we do not have a High Priest who cannot sympathise with our weaknesses, but was in all points tempted as we are, yet without sin. Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need’ (Heb. 4:15-16).

PRAYER POINTS

1. Thank the Lord for the privilege and honour to walk with Him despite being human and imperfect.

2. Ask for the grace to walk as a child of Christ’s light and love, and by His Spirit.

3. Pray for the restoration of holiness that is gradually dying among Christians in the world, being tactically replaced by subtle worldliness.
