FEEL SECURED

Read: Psalms 27:1-5

Psalms 27:1-5  The LORD is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? the LORD is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?

When the wicked, even mine enemies and my foes, came upon me to eat up my flesh, they stumbled and fell.

Though an host should encamp against me, my heart shall not fear: though war should rise against me, in this will I be confident.

One thing have I desired of the LORD, that will I seek after; that I may dwell in the house of the LORD all the days of my life, to behold the beauty of the LORD, and to enquire in his temple.

For in the time of trouble he shall hide me in his pavilion: in the secret of his tabernacle shall he hide me; he shall set me up upon a rock.

MEMORISE:

Stay with me; do not fear, For he who seeks my life seeks your lite, but with me you shall be safe (1 Samuel 22:23)

EXPOSITION

The adage, “A coward dies many times before his final death, but a valiant man dies but once”? is sacrosanct. The little difference between the two persons is that the former has attitude of fear while the latter has attitude of courage. The little difference between them, attitude, brings about end result of their lives. Failure to feel secure makes one to be in bondage of fear. If you do not feel secure, you fear rejection, failure and finally, you fear death (Heb. 2:14-15).

Having carefully studied David’s attitude to life as a fugitive before king Saul, we discovered that he firmly felt secure. Saul tried all he could to terminate David’s life. It was because of him he gave order to kill all the priests of God in the land, except Abiathar who had narrowly escaped (1 Sam. 22:17-20). Abiathar ran to David out of fear with ephod in his hand (23:6). When he got to him, he gave him instruction to follow his safety: “Stay with me; do not fear”. David assured him that in as much as he stayed with him without fear, he shall be safe. What a language of a highly secure man? What is your attitude to life situations? Do you believe that you are highly secure in the Lord even when you are walking through the valley of the shadow of death?

Here we need to take a critical look at the difference between Abiathar and David. Abiathar was a priest and David was a king. Who between them should serve as a means of security to another? Abiathar escaped with the ephod, official priest garment. This clerical wear represented the presence of God to make inquiry before Him. David had to take the place of the priest the next time they wanted to make inquiry from God (23:9; 30:7). David was able to summon his courage, because he felt secure in God (See. Ps. 27:5). No matter the situation, learn to use courage to confront, resist and master your fear. If you don’t lose God, you cannot lose the battle (Rom. 8:31).
