(Mid-Lent)

DANGER OF NON – SUPPORTIVE WIVES.

Read 2 Samuel 6:16-23; I Chronicles 15:29.

MEMORISE: Who can find a virtuous wife? For her worth is far above rubies. The heart of her husband safety trusts her… (Proverbs 31:10,11).

EXPOSITION

Today’s Living Water dose is sequel to that of yesterday, even as we continue the godly activities this Lenten season. At one point or the other in life, we always need help, without which life is unbearable and often miserable. God created is to be there fo each other. You are expected to be a pillar of support for someone. Some people need your encouragement, care and counsel to be what God has destined them for.

The focus of this devotion today is on how wives, who are originally created by God to be helpmeet for their husbands could play that role adequately to fulfill God’s plan and purpose. Women like Sarah are uncommon today, who do everything possible to safeguard the life of their husbands and are real pillars of support (I Pet. 3:1-7).

Michal, who had at one time showed kindness to David by allowing him to escape when her father expected that she would freely hand him over to be killed, later in life antagonized her husband. Simply because David danced selflessly before God when the Ark was brought to Jerusalem, she charged him for inglorious and foolish display, whereas God was greatly pleased by that display. Instead of Michal to join her husband to dance before God, she despised him. What a contradiction!.

David was not happy with what his beloved woman said about his display before God. He gave her a worthy response for her accusation. The outcome or aftermath of the wh scenario shows that God was angry with Michal for accusing David on how he danced before Him. Surprisingly, David went the long distance to recover and re- possess this same woman (2. Sam. 3:13). Wives should be pillars of support and not caterpillars or bulldozers pulling down the ministries, visions, and lives of their husbands, because the consequences of such are better imagined than experienced.

PRAYER POINTS:

1. O Lord, help me to be a pillar of support to others and in a special way for my spouse.

2. Lord, let Your Spirit fill me to the brim so that I will be one of the godly women of my generation.

3. Lord, destroy the works of those who have committed themselves to manhandling and abusing women through rape, ritual killing, kidnapping, trafficking, and sexual slavery.

EXTRA READING FOR TODAY : Numbers 21:12 – 22:40; Mark 11:1 – 11:22.
