LOVE IS THE KEY.

Read I Corinthians 13:1-8.

MEMORISE: Love suffers long and is kind, love does not envy; love does not parade itself, is not puffed up; (I Corinthians 13:4).

EXPOSITION

We are tempted at times to keep wondering if the same God created Africa and America/Europe or Asia! There is none of these that suffers any form of bias or prejudice from the Creator, because He is a just God (Isa. 45:21). Many things have been said to be the challenges of our continent/country. Corruption, insecurity, unemployment and others, make some of the long list of them. However, only one thing spearheads these – selfishness! The truth however is that there is no continent without it’s challenges.

Dr. Tim Lahaye, a renowned author says “love is the opposite of selfishness!” Absence of love is a real bane in the society. Because it is what brings impatience, wickedness, pride, meanness, suspicion, self-seeking, hostility, just to mention a few ( Gen. 5:29ff). Selfish people think about themselves in all things. They don’t have others in their plan or agenda! Even when it looks as if they are altruistic in charting a popular course, the motivating factor is still a self-seeking purpose!.

If we expel this I’ll from our society, it almost means we don’t have any issue again. Love should replace selfishness. In love, you can have patience, kindness, sincerity, generosity, humility, politeness, trust, grace and true patriotism. If you think of the ripple effect of that thing your actions will have on others, you would consider it carefully before doing so. To be inconsiderate is selfishness, and this must be nippled in the bud, if we will experience meaningful growth and development as a nation.

On the road, selfish nature of people is usually displayed. When a motorist only considers himself as the road user, what becomes of others – cyclists and pedestrians? Let this change begin with you – “others first; first last” should be in your watchword.

PRAYER POINTS:

1. Lord, uproot every source of selfishness in me.

2. Lord, help all the dwellers on earth and in a special way the believers to be guided by love, self sacrifice, the honour of others in all that we do or say.

3. Lord, cause your Holy Spirit to shed the love of God in the hearts of our leaders, so that they can  sincerely pursue people-oriented agenda.
