HANDLING HANDFUL CHILDREN

Read:  Genesis 18:17-19

Genesis 18:17-19 And the Lord said, Shall I hide from Abraham [My friend and servant] what I am going to do,

Since Abraham shall surely become a great and mighty nation, and all the nations of the earth shall be blessed through him and shall bless themselves by him?

For I have known (chosen, acknowledged) him [as My own], so that he may teach and command his children and the sons of his house after him to keep the way of the Lord and to do what is just and righteous, so that the Lord may bring Abraham what He has promised him.

MEMORISE:

Train up a child in the way he should go [and in keeping with his individual gift or bent], and when he is old he will not depart from it. (Proverbs 22v6)

EXPOSITION

Almost all parents, guardians, teachers, instructors, and generally, adults, used to be very brilliant, obedient and well-behaved while they were children! Many parents and teachers instruct their children and pupils without paying attention to their tenderness, innocence, docility and general childishness of kids. A parent once told his children: “…I was not like this when i was at your age…” The truth is that you were worse than that! You could not have known that. Only your own parents can reliably say exactly what you were at that age!

On this occasion of Children’s Day worldwide, topic like this is not out of place. Handling our kids requires wisdom of God. Children can be handful and when they are man-handled, the outcome might be worse than being handful. Careers of children at home, school, church and the society at large need a lot of patience to cope with. Our Lord Jesus Christ set the pace for us (Mk.10:13). The disciples, just like some of us saw the children as handful, disturbance or nuisance but Jesus rebuked them (Mk.10v14).

Our Lord Jesus Christ gently bore them on His shoulders to exemplify His love, care and support for the kids. Of course,  we have some unusual children who prove to be very stubborn to handle. This is no excuse to abuse them, either physically or psychologically. With unrelenting prayer efforts, commensurate and age-complaints discipline, those handful children will not become wayward and irresponsible adults. The problem is, not starting child’s training at right time. If you allow your fish to become dry, it can’t bend again, unless you want to break it! Receive the grace to handle your children/wards properly today and always.

Remember, this is an instruction, a commandment from God which has no respect for anyone. Make it work, practice it, obey it, wherever you are on the surface of the earth. Do not leave the growth of your children to chances or government agencies.

PRAYER POINTS:

1. Lord, deliver our children from the Spirit of evil in this generation.

2. Lord, give me the wisdom to properly groom my children for Your glory.

3. Give us Oh God the ministers, the parents who have the eye’s of Jesus to see the children beyond Now.
