Overcoming Fear

Read Exodus 14:10-22.

MEMORISE: And Moses said to the people, “Do not be afraid. Stand still, and see the salvation of the Lord, which He will accomplish for you today. For the Egyptians whom you see today, you shall see again no more forever (Exodus 14:13.)

EXPOSITION

Fear is innate in humans. Psychologists believe that human beings are all born with two different kinds of fear: the fear of fall and the fear of noise *(sound, vibration and news). It is true that we all react to our fears of not wanting to fail an examination, project, or appointment. Also, the tendency is there to quiver when there is a sudden sound, or an unpleasant news.

Assuredly however, fear is an illusion. It is not tangible; it is not real. We create it in our minds and develop it until it becomes real. Look at the outcry of Job in Job 3:25. Obviously, what he had been envisaging and was to a large extend, scared of, that led him to offer those sacrifices to God on his children’s behalf, were the things that befell him. Fear has his acronym, False-Evidence-Appearing- Real, which shows it as a mere mirage – something that appears to be real but is unreal; a figment of your imagination that appears real and scary, but later discovered to be unreal upon closer examination.

God instructed Moses to tell the Isrealites to relax because the Egyptians they saw then, they would see no more (Exod. 14:13). These were the same Egyptians who had so tormented them to the extent that they liaised with their Midwives to tactically reduce their population and military strengths. This is worth mentioning on this auspiy International Midwives’Day. Thank God for those  godly midwives and those of them today who would not subscribe to ungodly advances. Mirage are those things that seem to be real, but as we get close to them, they disappear. Those Egyptians were mere mirage, as far as God was concerned. Do you know that is the way God sees those tough situations in your life? That is why you must align with Him to calm the storms of your life.

What are your fears? If you can drop them at the feet of Christ, they will disappear like a mirage. They may look insurmountable today, like the Egyptians, but with God on your side, they are nothing. Cast all your care (fear) on Him, for He cares for you ( 1 Pet. 5:7)

PRAYER POINT:

1. Lord, deliver me from the power and grip of fear

2. Lord, make the fears of my life disappear like mere mirage.

3. Lord, deliver our nation from oppression o aggression, both internally and externally.
