LESSON THIRTY THREE (33)
TOPIC: COUNSEL THE SHEEP
BIBLE TEXT: John 4:1-19
MEMORY VERSE: Prov 11:14
Where no counsel is, the people fall: but in the multitude of counsellors, there is safety
LESSON AIM: To teach the teens how to counsel others.
CENTRAL TRUTH: Only the wise can counsel effectively, seek the wisdom of God.
INTRODUCTION: The conversation recorded in our passage of today in John 4 was between Jesus and an unnamed woman who was from the village of Sychar in Samaria. The conversation occurred at a well, the source of water for the village. It was a private conversation. They were alone at the well. There can be no better source of learning about counselling than from our Lord, Master and Savior, Jesus the Christ. Jesus gently but firmly led and guided her to salvation, He crossed cultural, racial and religious barriers to do so. He is our example of wise counselling.
STUDY GUIDE:
To effectively counsel others, keep in mind the following 10 steps:
1. Listen to God – “The Spirit searches all things, even the deep things of God”- 1 Cor 2:10)
2. Be wise. Don’t judge others – Eph 5:15; Rom 14:13
3. Speak the truth in love – Eph 4:15
4. Pay attention to carefully – James 1:19
5. Let the scriptures guide you – Heb 4:12
6. Don’t take offence – 1 Sam 8:7
7. Make up with others, even if they offended you – Gal 6:1
8. Correct others with love – James 5:20
9. Continually pray for those seeking advice – Eph 6:18
10. Do not seek any personal gains from giving advice to others – 2 Cor 2:17
INVITATION/ APPLICATION: God made it clear that anyone and keep on refusing His counsel (through His Word and through wise believers) will incur “disaster” (Prov. 1:26), “calamity” (Prov 1:26) ” distress and trouble”(Prov 1:27) and even death (Prov 1:32). If you hear His voice today, do not harden your heart! Come to Him as the author and finisher of your faith.
CONCLUSION: God may place you in a position of honor in ministering to His people. Take care of this precious gift from Him by keeping your heart humble and tender towards those He sends your way. Also, remember that seeking advice is a command from God Himself. God personified as ‘Lady Wisdom’ in Proverbs commands all people everywhere to seek her counsel (Prov. 1:20-33). Ultimately, God Himself is the Counsellor. His name is Counsellor (Isa. 9:6) this refers to Jesus Christ) and His Spirit is the Spirit of Counsel (Isa. 11:2).
LESSON THIRTY FOUR (34)
TOPIC: ACTS OF PRAYER
BIBLE TEXT: Luke 18:1-8
MEMORY VERSE: Eph 6:18
Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints;
LESSON AIM: To let the teens know what prayer is all about.
CENTRAL TRUTH: Because God has fashioned our hearts individually, our prayers need to flow naturally out of our hearts and be consistent with the way He has designed us.
INTRODUCTION: Everything about our spiritual lives depends on our personal faith in God and our personal relationship with Him. We can enjoy that relationship because Jesus’ death on the cross gives us free, unhindered access to our heavenly Father and our faith makes it possible for us to have an intimate, dynamic, relationship with Him. (Ephesians 3:12).

INVITATION/ APPLICATION: A man who prays is the greatest threat to the devil. Decide to gain mastery of this act. And remember that the prayers of a sinner is an abomination to God, so live a holy life!
CONCLUSION: God wants our prayers to be honest and heartfelt, and He wants our communication with Him unhindered by rules, regulations, legalism and obligation. He intends for prayer to be an integral part of our everyday lives – the easiest thing we do each day.
LESSON THIRTY FIVE (35)
TOPIC: HOME TRAINING
BIBLE TEXT: Proverbs 4:1-25
MEMORY VERSE: Ex 20:12
Honour thy father and thy mother: that thy days may be long upon the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee
LESSON AIM: To let the teens know the importance of home training.
CENTRAL TRUTH: Home training is vital in the development of every child of God.
INTRODUCTION: In sociology, there is a constant nature vs. nurture debate as regards the behaviours and attitude of a person. No factor should be considered above the other, however it is clear that the way a child is nurtured will determine the future of the person. A well brought up child will grow up to be a well brought up teenager and a pride to his family. He
or she is said to have good home-training. We can see this manifested in the life of Timothy as a teenager. Timothy’s character so impressed Paul that he chose to take him on many of his future missions. In fact, Timothy became his right-hand man, carrying messages to churches and individuals and ministering to churches where needed. Paul loved Timothy as his own
son and wrote two letters of instruction especially for him.
Our study guide shall reflect the attributes of good upbringing manifested in the life of Timothy.

What is Good home training?
A. It can be simply defined as manners and social etiquette taught at home. These are patterns of manners and behavior, that if imbibed by a child would affect his or her life, irrespective of where the child (and adult) finds
himself or herself.
Traits of good home training/upbringing;
1. Discipline – Prov 29:17.
2. Respect for people – 1 Tim 5:1-3
3. Be an example to the believers – 1 Tim 4:12
4. Walk in good work – Eph 2:10
5 Mention other traits of good upbringing
B. Benefits of Home Training:
1. For peace and harmony to reign in every home – Prov 29:17
2. Obedience to God – Matt 16:24
3.To correct bad habits and attitudes early – Prov 22:15
4. Wisdom and life lessons to avoid costly mistakes – Prov 29:15
What God says about Home Training;
1. Children are precious creations and blessings – Psalms 127:3-55
2. Children should be taught prayer and study of the Word.
3. Home training is God’s commandment and desire – Deut 6:6-9

4. Home training should refine you but not make you oppressed or depressed – Col 3:21
INVITATION/ APPLICATION: Make sure you take time to appreciate your parents/guardians for training you. It takes a lot of love, energy and
wisdom to train a child. However, if you have not been yielding to the training of your parents, you can repent today. Ask the Lord to forgive you
and start a new life of obedience to your parents.
CONCLUSION: Eunice and Lois, Timothy’s mother and grandmother took the instructions in Deuteronomy 6:6-8 very seriously and over the years, their efforts bore fruit. Timothy memorized whole passages from the Scriptures, as was the custom for Jewish boys, using them to guide his life. Gradually he developed into a “vessel for honor, sanctified and useful for the Master, prepared for every good work” (2 Tim 2:21). Conclusively, do not despise these days of training and the sometimes-tough process. God
has a plan for you and everything will work for your good in the end if you yield to Him.
LESSON THIRTY SIX (36)
TOPIC: WATER BAPTISM AND HOLY SPIRIT BAPTISM
BIBLE TEXT: Matthew 3:13-17; Acts 1:4-5
MEMORY VERSE: Matthew 3:11
I indeed baptize you with water unto repentance: but he that cometh after me is mightier than I, whose shoes I am not worthy to bear: he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost, and with fire:
LESSON AIM: To teach the teens about water and Holy Spirit baptism
CENTRAL TRUTH: Water and Holy Spirit baptism is our competitive advantage as believers.
INTRODUCTION: Water baptism is the immersion of a believer in water in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. it is a symbolic act whereby a new Christian identifies with Christ’s death, burial, and resurrection. it is an outward personal public declaration of a person’s repentance and faith in Jesus Christ.

Steps in water baptism and its significance:
Going down into the water signifies that our old man is dead to sin and buried by faith with Christ – Rom 6:3
Being raised out of the water signifies our resurrection with Christ. That a new man is raised by the Spirit and made alive by faith in Christ – Col 2:12
Examples include:
• Matthew 3:13-17 – Jesus was baptized with water by John the Baptist.
• Acts 10:45-48 – Peter commanded the Gentiles to be baptized.
• Acts 8:36-39 – Philip baptized the eunuch.
The baptism with the Spirit is immersion of the believer into the life and power of the Holy Spirit. When you are baptized with the Holy Spirit, you
will receive strength, power and boldness from God to accomplish your work and overcome sin in your own life. An evidence of this is the ability to speak in tongues.
Examples include:
• Acts 2:1-4 – Jesus disciples on the day of Pentecost.
• Acts 19:1-6 – Disciples at Ephesus.
• Acts 8:14-17 – The apostles which were at Jerusalem.
INVITATION/ APPLICATION: Yield yourself to the Holy Spirit, so that you are enabled to do God’s will.
CONCLUSION: The life that we have in Christ is that of grace, and can only be maintained by the Spirit of grace filling, overwhelming and influencing us. God’s plan is that we live by the power of the Holy Spirit.
LESSON THIRTY SEVEN (37)
TOPIC: SELF-DISCIPLINE
BIBLE TEXT: 1 Corinthians 9:19-27
MEMORY VERSE: 1 Cor. 9:27 “But I keep under my body, and bring it into subjection: lest that by any means, when I have preached to others, I myself should be a castaway.”
LESSON AIM: To let them know that self-discipline pays.
CENTRAL TRUTH: Discipline yourself now for the prize ahead.
INTRODUCTION: Self-discipline or self-control, is one of the nine fruits of the Spirit listed by Apostle Paul in Galatians 5:22-23. The KJV translation uses the word temperance in place of “self-control” which, like self discipline, generally refers to our ability to control or restrain ourselves from all kinds of feelings, impulses, and desires, which includes the desire for physical and material comfort. Now, even though self-control is the last of the spiritual fruits mentioned by Paul, and even though it is a term not used extensively in the Bible, self-control is clearly an indispensable attribute of the Christian life, especially as our unredeemed flesh sometimes causes us to succumb to the persistent tug of our sinful desires.

INVITATION/ APPLICATION: Self-discipline takes effort but it is always worth it. Take note of habits you intend to get rid of and tackle them one by one. Remember self-discipline becomes easier with the Holy Spirit.
CONCLUSION: It is important to understand that self-control is a work of the Holy Spirit. Galatians 5:22-23 lists it as one of the Fruit of the Spirit, not the fruit of the Christian. It is the indwell ing presence of the Holy Spirit that gives Christians the power and ability to exercise self-control so that we will not be mastered by the “cravings of sinful man” As Paul said, “God did not give us a Spirit of fear, but a Spirit of power, of love and of self- discipline” (2 Tim 1:7). Indeed, Christians are controlled not by the sinful nature, but by the Holy Spirit (Rom 8:9), who helps us in our weakness (v.26), which makes us able to say “no” to sin. Self-discipline is not pleasant but painful. Later on however, it produces a harvest of righteousness and peace
