DEATH SENTENCE.

Read : 2 Samuel 13:3-14.

MEMORISE: He who walk with the wise men will be companion of fools will be destroyed (Proverbs 13:20).

EXPOSITION

A  wise counsel is the one rooted in the Word of God and conforms to its principles. It is not all advice that is good to follow; that is good for others, does not make it good for you. There is godly counsel and there is foolish counsel. The sources and kind of counsel determines if it is to be accepted or rejected.

Jonadab’s advice to Amnon was a  death sentence. Had he rejected it, he wouldn’t have died the untimely painful death. No matter how good anything from the devil appears, it is a death sentence, avoid it. Evil counsels first kill spiritually and later physically. The Scriptures warn us to take counsel only from godly source.

God can instigate a wicked man to give advice that will destroy the proud and arrogant who for whatever reason rejected His counsel. And advice from a  crafty man brings destruction. If you value the things of God like David, you will have a Jonathan as friend but when your value is carnal, you will find friendship in Jonadab. Don’t negotiate ungodly counsel. Reject it in totally and run away from such godless counsellors.

When thoughts are not controlled, values are lacking and evil desires become one’s pursuit. Amnon developed an incestuous lust for Tamar and Jonadab advice set him on edge. Who you surround yourself with and  befriend, are they those who hold values that glorify God?

If you love God, there are chances that most of your close friends are people who love God. The people we surround ourselves with usually have a big influence on our choices. Don’t make your sources of strategies and counsel worldly. A counsel from a stranger, someone you hardly know will destroy your pride, integrity and testimonies. The world’s strategies will bring success but at a dire cost. Amnon runined his sister’s life forever and he himself died a violent death.

Seek for older, wiser and godly people for advice, those who can warn you of the pitfalls ahead, and will not be afraid to tell the truth.

PRAYER POINTS:

1. Call upon God to forgive you over every area of your life you have in one way or the other given ungodly counsel to people.

2. Pray that God will purify your heart so that all that will come from your heart will glorify God and edify His people.

3. Pray that God will separate you from those you hang out with that are not adding value to your life.
