MEN’S RETREAT
Read: Ezra 10:1-9
MEMORISE:
Then all the men of Judah and Benjamin gathered at Jerusalem within three days. (Ezra 10:9a)
EXPOSITION
We are all important in the programme and agenda of God. Yet, God is more interested in the men who are the household heads, and are charged with the responsibility of leading their families and the people of God. God always wants His people to follow His will and leadership to letter, and this is made possible by godly leaders at home, church, and all walks of life.
For the two sons of Jacob to destroy Shechem, the men of the city were the target, they were deceived into circumcision and were killed in the process (Genesis 34:1-31). For Pharaoh to sustain his captivity of the Hebrew people in his domain, he targeted the male children. Whenever God plans to get a nation, He gets the men first.
The men of Judah in today’s reading gathering in Jerusalem. What were they doing? It was a great moment of transformation as they observed a solemn assembly. They confessed their sins and wept bitterly before God.
On the other hand, women are mothers in Israel. They are obligated to help their men to fulfil God’s purpose on them. There shouldn’t be room for competition but they ought to collaborate, to complement each other. Both sexs should cooperate with God and resist the devil in order to collaborate in building a formidable nation and people. Women are to replicate godly example before their children and be sources of support and succor to their husbands.
Where are our men today? Many men have abandoned their homes to lodge with concubines. Some men are regular customers in hotel, brothels, and clubs at expanse of their homes. What about men, who are specialists in besting their woman? Men in all lands need a special retreat and solemn assembly, if they would fulfil God’s mandate on their lives. May you not be among the useless men who don’t take responsibilities over their children and homes in Jesus name. May you not be classified as an “irresponsible” man.
PRAYER POINTS
1. Lord, heal our lands and visit our men, bring them to sober reflection and unison with You.
2. I refuses to be a useless father and husband in Jesus name.
3. Help our men to understand Your purpose for their lives in Jesus name.
