LOVE FOR THE FORBIDDEN

Read: Genesis 3:4-7

Genesis 3:4-7 But the serpent said to the woman, You shall not surely die,

For God knows that in the day you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing the difference between good and evil and blessing and calamity.

And when the woman saw that the tree was good (suitable, pleasant) for food and that it was delightful to look at, and a tree to be desired in order to make one wise, she took of its fruit and ate; and she gave some also to her husband, and he ate.

Then the eyes of them both were opened, and they knew that they were naked; and they sewed fig leaves together and made themselves apronlike girdles.

MEMORISE:

For Demas has deserted me for love of this present world and has gone to Thessalonica; Crescens [has gone] to Galatia, Titus to Dalmatia. (2 Timothy 4:10).

EXPOSITION

The first love for the forbidden as recorded in GENESIS 3 occurred in Eden was a result of appreciating the lies of the serpent as against the truth of God. Whosoever loves the lies of the devil will definitely love the forbidden sin. Also, the inability of a Christian to abide by, obey the law of God is another reason for loving the forbidden.

Forbidden in today’s context is, not conforming to the usual selected principles. Christians are guided by certain principles, laws and doctrines. It is an aberration of jettison this for the dictates of and from the father of lies-the devil. Now that you are in the mess, the only way out is to go for a renewal. Don’t listen further to the devil’s deceit. You can come out of it, if only you call on him that has power to save from the devil.

Love for the forbidden starts with your heart. Do not allow the devil to take over your heart. Remember you are bought by the blood of Christ; you can’t go back to Yiur vomit, Dema did that in 2 Timothy 4:10. Don’t go with the world, nothing good will the world offer you.

The love for the forbidden begins with the affections, taking second and even a third look, showing interest in what is known to be unacceptable, either by natural law or God’s law. It comes most, in form of temptation and continuous engagement in it. It could also be that trying to forget what the law says or deliberate disregard for it. It is dangerous to allow ourselves to be convinced by the lies from the devil. Arrogance and carefree lifestyle can make Christians begin to appreciate what was once seen unacceptable.

Time is now to begin thorough search of our lives and rid/purge ourselves of the lust for what He hates.

PRAYER POINTS

1. Help me O Lord, to henceforth love only what You love and hate what You hate.

2. I receive the power from God Almighty to resist Satan whenever he comes to me with his lies and deceit in Jesus name.

3. Pray that God will shine His light into our churches which will continually expose the works and agents of the devil.
