Mark 11:12-13 The next day as they were leaving Bethany, Jesus was hungry.

MEMORISE:

The next day as they were leaving Bethany, Jesus was hungry. (Mark 11:12)

EXPOSITION

We have a lot to learn from Jesus; He is our perfect example in all regards. So many of us expect too much from life, itself. No wonder many committed suicide when their, on so many cases, unrealistic expectations aren’t met. God hasn’t promised us a challenge-free life. In fact, He would continue to allow trying situation them and progressively prepare them for maturity and ministry. In the real sense, only touch people wear out tough situations, because tough situations don’t last, but tough people do (c.f.Jn.16:33;1 Pet.5v10).

To make us better understand the above reality, when Jesus was here in earth, He went through humanly unpleasant experiences. Just imagine Jesus, the God-incarnate, Embodiment of the true bliss, inexhaustible Heaven, coming here to feel hungry …He was hungry (v.12b). Hungry? (cf.Psa.50:12). The One who satisfies and fills the longing/hungry soul with all goodness (Psa.107:9) being hungry! He allowed that to happen to Himself to teach us an eternal lesson and serve as perfect example of the lesson.

Of course, He also experienced other negative, unpalatable emotions-weeping, tiredness, heaviness of heart, etc. He chose to become human (Phil. 2:5ff) to personally and actively experience the realities and pains of humanity. By this, He would be able to practically empathise with us and help us as we learn from Him (Heb.4v15).

If God hunkered and went through other hard time here on earth, expect to experience more, being human yourself. All we need, therefore, is His Grace to come out of such experience unscathed, so that at the end, He would be glorified and we would be blessed (1 Cor.10:13; 1 Pet.5:10).

PRAYER POINTS:

1. Lord, help me to follow Your footsteps in all I do in life.

2. Lord, release Your grace / enablement upon me to be able to endure every thing I must endure to get to where You ordain for me.

3. Mention brethren passing through storms of prosecutions all over the globe in prayer to God, today.
