CONTINUOUSLY HEAR GOD’S WORD

Read: Romans 10:10-17

MEMORISE:

Now when they had heard [that there had been] a resurrection from the dead, some scoffed; but others said, We will hear you again about this matter. (Acts 17:32)

EXPOSITION

Sometimes when we hear a particular thing, the meaning and the full details might not be that clear to us, but when we hear it over and over again, the details become clearer, and we will dare to catch more glimpse concerning the matter. Continuity in hearing of the Word demands lack of interruption or disconnection from it. Having the quality of being continuous in hearing the good news and digging deeper in it any God-given available space and time makes us know more about God, His principles, commands, statues and daily guidance through the Holy spirit. These are very paramount to our Christian living. As Christians, it is good to portray the characteristic of someone who continuously hears God’s Word that is new every morning, giving new and meaningful insight.

Acts 17:32 gives an account of the group of people that Paul encountered. These ones asked for a postponement. They intended hearing on another appointment. What are some likely reasons for the postponement? First, it may have been a polite dismissal by the people, rather than a direct rejection. Rather than laugh at Paul, they simply said they would see him later. Later in that same Acts, king Agrippa said to Paul, You almost persuade me to become a Christian (Acts 26:28). Second is the fact that it may have been a reaction. It is not uncommon, when the gospels is being presented, for people to ask questions. They might need clarification further information on some points. Paul spoke some things that would have obviously been new or strange to the hearers hence the need for clarification.

Similarly people show such attitudes, today because when they hear the gospel, they sometimes find it difficult to come to the terms with the reality hence the need for further clarification. Of course, …faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God (Rom.10:7). Proper understanding of the Word of God comes when it is preached precept upon precept line upon line, line upon line, hear a little, there a little (Isa.28:10). And so let us reaffirm our faith in Christ Jesus and continuously preach the gospel to people, so that we will all grow to the full stature of Christ.

PRAYER POINTS:

1. Father, grant me the empowerment to know You the more in Jesus name.

2. Lord, destroy every spirit of ignorance in my life.

3. Lord Jesus, help all of us and grant us the strength and wisdom to keep on preaching the Word to the world, relentlessly, in Jesus name.
