CANAAN IS LOADED; OBEDIENCE IS THE KEY

Read:  Deuteronomy 8:6-20

MEMORISE: If you are willing and obedient, you shall eat the good of the land (lsaiah 1:19)

EXPOSITION

It is a pity that many people want the good in the hand of the King of kings who owns the entire universe, exclusively (Psa. 24:1-2) without due affection for Him. People want to stand afar off and snatch God’s blessings from Him. It can’t work that way! So many people want to enjoy the blessings of Christ without surrendering to the dictates of His Cross. They want to be in Christ without being told how to live their lives for Him, hence the mad rush to places where people are allowed to live their lives the way they like it, with the false assurance of making heaven even in this terrible condition (cf. 2 Tim. 3:4ff).

Abraham was already steadily following God when the Lord multiplied him and changed his name (Gen. 17:5). God’s promises for His people are unprecedented: But as it is written: “Eye has not seen, nor ear heard, nor have entered into the heart of man the things which God has prepared for those who love Him”(1 Cor. 2:9).

God did not fail in opening the veil on the bag of goodies in the Land of Canaan. Canaan was a good land, with brooks and water springs. It was a land of wheat, vines, figs, oil, honey, milk, etc. To cap it all, there were large deposits of different natural resources. Does your country look like that? However, the gate of that wonderful city can only be opened by obedience to God’s instructions. Great things are not easy to come by; you have to fulfil Some requirements. God desires absolute obedience to His rules in order to enjoy those great things He stores up for us (cf. Deut. 28:1ff).

Have you given your heart to Jesus? Are you ready to look away from the world and forsake all else to follow Him? God’s blessings in Christ are inexhaustible. Those who meet Him once couldn’t afford to go back from Him. Your saying Yes’ to His call today is a ‘Yes’ to enjoying the ‘goodies of Canaan’ as one of the World’s indigenous people being commemorated today.

PRAYER POINTS

1. Lord, please wash me and make me fit to enter into Your eternal ‘banquet hall’.

2. O Lord, deal with the pride in me, so I can be patient for You to take me to my promised Land.

3. Lord, help churches to be more concerned with positive changes in the life of members and leaders than what to get from them.
