GOD HELPS THOSE WHO SEEK HIM

Read: Psalms 121:1-8

Psalms 121:1-8  I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills, from whence cometh my help.

My help cometh from the LORD, which made heaven and earth.

He will not suffer thy foot to be moved: he that keepeth thee will not slumber.

Behold, he that keepeth Israel shall neither slumber nor sleep.

The LORD is thy keeper: the LORD is thy shade upon thy right hand.

The sun shall not smite thee by day, nor the moon by night.

The LORD shall preserve thee from all evil: he shall preserve thy soul.

The LORD shall preserve thy going out and thy coming in from this time forth, and even for evermore.

MEMORISE:

I will lift up my eyes to the hills. From whence comes my help? (Psalms 121:1)

EXPOSITION

There have been several times many of us have relied on man to help us, only to meet with disappointment (cf. Jer. 17:5,9). It is normal or natural to look up to people like one’s parents, siblings, friends, spouse, children or pastors at certain periods one thinks any of them has help to offer. However, this might be like seeking Egyptian help. If you know man’s limitation, you would stop counting on his succour (Jer. 17:5). The Bible rebukes people who seek help in their fellow mortals. No man can help you, if God doesn’t move him to do so.

Situations may seem against you. The storms may rage violently against you in any area. Life’s harder sides may seem to be facing you. At these critical moments, there will always be options: to look inward, around, downward, or upward.

When you look inward during challenges, you will become depressed. Why? You want to blame yourself for your misfortunes, and this won’t help. Well, you may want to look around you whether you can find help. Sorry to disappoint you; there is no one around to wipe your tears away. They too have their life’s encounters to battle with. You just have to face yours. To look downward is to give up on yourself and the situation. This accounts for why many have been pushed to the wall to the extent of committing suicide. Don’t look downward; there is no help in doing so.

LOOK UP! LOOK UP! That is the solution. It is high time you looked up to God who alone knows the true dimension of, and solution to your pain. Jesus Christ has been in your shoes so that He can empathise with you (Heb. 4:15). Those who truly seek God find Him (Matt 7:7). You may have been praying. Yet, if your heart doesn’t rely solely on God, it is still not on point!

As you begin to seek His face in fasting, prayers, meditation in His Holy Scripture, and living holily and godly, trust Him to send help at the right time. (Psa. 46:1). He never fails! Be diligent, patient and consistent in your seeking. You will surely find the soothing Balm of Gilead (Psa. 27:14). He is forever faithful to His Word. Stay revived.

PRAYER POINTS

1. Lord, help me to always look up to You in all situations.

2. Lord, I seek Your help in this present trying situation (mention it to Him, now). Come, bail me out. I trust You.

3. Lord, help our people waiting on You for fruits of the womb to be patient enough for You without resorting to godless means, in Jesus’ name.
