THE MORE YOU SCATTER…

Read: Proverbs 11:24-27

Proverbs 11:24-27 One person gives freely, yet gains even more; another withholds unduly, but comes to poverty.
A generous person will prosper; whoever refreshes others will be refreshed.
People curse the one who hoards grain, but they pray God’s blessing on the one who is willing to sell.
Whoever seeks good finds favor, but evil comes to one who searches for it.

MEMORISE:
One person gives freely, yet gains even more; another withholds unduly, but comes to poverty. (Proverbs 11:24).

EXPOSITION
The selfish nature of man informs the way he naturally behaves and believes as if exclusively he owns to himself all that he has. This natural tendency seems to make man think that he wastes his things by obeying the Scripture that says, Cast your bread upon the water… (Eccl.11v1). The natural man will not bother to read further, For you will find it after many days. Meanwhile, today’s does of the Living Water is to educate us on getting more as we release more, and vice versa (Lk.6v38, 2 Cor.8v15). Your worth is valued by how much of your supposed possessions you make accessible to those who do not have. This must go down our fabric as the world remembers today as International Day of Charity.

In Jesus parable of the rich fool, in Luke 12, it is clear that God is not having any issue with the man’s wealth, but his attitude to it. The man’s self-centernedness and lack of regard for God, the real Owner, is so obvious that he bragged about his possessions (Lk.12v18). He believed his strength brought him everything. He didn’t even care about those around him-essence of his being blessed.

Dear devout, there is nothing you have that you have not received from God who remains the architect of your wealth (1 Cor. 4v7). He gives power to get and enjoy wealth (Deut.8v18). Every bit of God’s blessings on you is a test; you must never use them as you wish. All our possessions, whether tangible or intangible, must primarily be used to honour God. Nothing you have should be too ‘big’ to serve God and humanity. Apart from this, you also must see it as your responsibility to take good care of the less privileged around, according to the measure of God’s blessings on you. Try in your own little way to put smile on people’s faces. Your faith is incomplete without this (Jas.2v15-16).

Factually, people don’t have because they don’t give, and not that they don’t give because they don’t have. There is no amount of prayer and fasting that can bring blessings and prosperity your way, if you are the selfish/stringy type. Be liberal and sacrificial in God’s way, God helping you. Stay blessed.

PRAYER POINTS:
1. Lord, give me a honestly liberal and giving heart.
2. Lord, make me the type who does my giving with no ulterior motive.
3. Lord, restore integrity among church leader that would encourage members to give more confidently and sincerely.
