MEMORY VERSE: “34 A new commandment I give unto you, That ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another. 35 By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another. ” – John 13:34-35

BIBLE TEXT: 1 John 2:5-11 (KJV)

5 But whoso keepeth his word, in him verily is the love of God perfected: hereby know we that we are in him.

6 He that saith he abideth in him ought himself also so to walk, even as he walked.

7 Brethren, I write no new commandment unto you, but an old commandment which ye had from the beginning. The old commandment is the word which ye have heard from the beginning.

8 Again, a new commandment I write unto you, which thing is true in him and in you: because the darkness is past, and the true light now shineth.

9 He that saith he is in the light, and hateth his brother, is in darkness even until now.

10 He that loveth his brother abideth in the light, and there is none occasion of stumbling in him.

11 But he that hateth his brother is in darkness, and walketh in darkness, and knoweth not whither he goeth, because that darkness hath blinded his eyes.

LESSON INTRODUCTION: The church of Christ is founded on LOVE, when Jesus was on earth and even at his closing days he emphasised the importance of a new commandment of LOVE for believers but unfortunately many are in church and out of church for something else, apart from the Agape Love Christ left for us. Love is an intense feeling of affection and care towards another person; but can this definition be found.

There are three kinds of love; these are Agape, Filial and Eros, but the kind of love that brought Christ to the world, and which he preached for the church is Agape type of love. Sometime called the Unconditional Love. This was the type of love seen in Antioch church that made item call the disciples Christian and in our memory verse today it is what makes outsiders call us the true disciples of Christ.
