WHAT YOU WANT TO BELIEVE
READ MATTHEW 21V28-32
28 KJV:But what think ye? A certain man had two sons; and he came to the first, and said, Son, go work to day in my vineyard.

29 KJV:He answered and said, I will not: but afterward he repented, and went.
30 KJV:And he came to the second, and said likewise. And he answered and said, I go, sir: and went not.
31 KJV:Whether of them twain did the will of his father? They say unto him, The first. Jesus saith unto them, Verily I say unto you, That the publicans and the harlots go into the kingdom of God before you.
32 KJV:For John came unto you in the way of righteousness, and ye believed him not: but the publicans and the harlots believed him: and ye, when ye had seen it, repented not afterward, that ye might believe him.

Memorise: KJV:For John came unto you in the way of righteousness, and ye believed him not: but the publicans and the harlots believed him: and ye, when ye had seen it, repented not afterward, that ye might believe him.
(Matthew 21v32)

Exposition
In our reading today, we see how Jesus questioned the chief priests when they tried to box Him to a corner. They could not answer His question, mainly because they could not let go of their selfish interest. Jesus knew the heart of the chief priests, and thus warned them of their foolishness. Due to their pride and eagerness to protect their own interests, they refused to acknowledged the way of John’s righteousness. Even when they saw it themselves, they didn’t believe, because they only wanted to believe what they wanted to believe-that thought was beneficial to them.
How often are we like those chief? Even when righteousness is evident before our eyes, we refuse to say a good word, because we fear to lose our own interests. We can even refuse to acknowledge, or believe it. Worse still, we sometimes take side with the wicked. As a result, those who are righteous are at times persecuted, not so much because of the world, but unfortunately, because of the hypocrisy of fellow believers.
Can we claim that we do not know what is righteous, with all the messages, sermons, teachings, through the various channels God provides? As a believers who has been feeding on the Word of God. Also, thank God for the presence of the Holy Spirit! With all these, hope you aren’t acting as if you do not know hypocrisy. Hope you aren’t rejecting what is good, godly and right? Is it because, like the chief priests, you fear to lose what you have in this world, or to be put to shame for the sake of righteousness? It us dangerous (cf.Mar.8v34ff). Don’t believe what you want to, but what God wants you to (cf.1 Tim.4v1ff).

Prayer points
1. Pray for God’s forgiveness for the times you refused to do what is right and godly, because of selfish interest.
2. Pray that God should help you to choose righteousness, even if it means being persecuted for it.
3. Pray for unbelieving relatives, friends and others around you, that God should deliever them from idolatry and satanic bewitchment, and bring them to Himself.
