SUB THEME : SOME BIBLICAL EXAMPLES OF GODLY LEADERSHIP .
TOPIC – Ezra and Nehemiah .
TEXT : Ezra 7: 1-10; Neh. 1: 1-11.
MEMORY VERSE: Proverbs 3:5 .
AIM : To
i. appreciate godly leadership in different spheres of life ;
ii. appreciate the personal attributes that prospered their endeavours ;
iii. be challenged by their God-ward dependence and attitude .
INTRODUCTION
Ezra and Nehemiah played very significant roles in mobilizing, equipping and
motivating God’s people towards rebuilding the Temple and the walls of
Jerusalem. Their godly leadership styles were simply exemplary, to the end
that even in the face of very stiff oppositions, they had no qualms in achieving
their goals. Nehemiah succeeded as an Administrator in the same way Ezra
succeeded as a priest. These were possible because of their outstanding
leadership traits, as this study will show.
STUDY GUIDE
1. Discuss the godly leadership style of Ezra and Nehemiah in the light of the
following passages: Ezra 8: 21-30; 10: 1-5; Neh. 2: 11-18; 13: 1-4 . What
is common to the leadership style of the two?
2. a. Discuss the characteristics of a godly leader in the light of the following:
Neh. 1:2, 4-5; 5: 14-19 and what we can learn from them today.
b. What traits favoured Nehemiah before his boss, his brethren (the Israelites) and
God? Neh.1:2-4; 2:1-4; 4:4-6, 23; 5:1-7, 14-18; 13:10-2 5.

3. What other godly attributes do you see in Ezra 7:6-10, 25; Neh.8:1-9; 9:1,
6 ?
4. To what extent did Ezra and Nehemiah depend on God and with what
results? Neh.1:4-11; Ezra 10:1-5, 6-12; Prov.3:5- 8.
CONCLUSION
Nehemiah and Ezra were indeed godly leaders to emulate. If our land can have
leaders like them today – selfless and committed to duty things will not remain
the same. Gracious Lord, give us godly leaders. Amen .
FOOD FOR THOUGHT : Whether in secular service or Christian ministry, godly
leadership virtues have great dividends.
