SUB THEME : GODLY LEADERSHIP

TOPIC  – Raising Godly Leadership in the Polity: Qualities, Tools
and Strategies.

TEXT : Gen. 41:33-41; Exod. 18:19-26; Deut. 17:14-20.

AIMS: To help participants
i. understand the concept of godly leadership in the polity ;
ii. identify the essential qualities of godly leadership in the polity ;
iii. grasp the ways and strategies for raising godly leadership in a polity .


INTRODUCTION :
According to Wikipedia.org, “A polity is any kind of political entity: a group of
people who are collectively united by a self-reflected cohesive force such as
identity; who have a capacity to mobilize resources, and are organized by some
form of institutionalized hierarchy”. Since leadership is ordained by God in all
spheres of life, this study shall examine some of the biblically approved ways
for raising noble leadership in a polity.

STUDY GUIDE:
1. What do you understand by the expression, ‘godly leadership in a polity ’?

2. a. From the following scriptures, point out some of the qualities and
requirements for godly leadership in any polity, Gen. 41:33, 38; Exod.
18:21; Dan. 4:27; 5:10-12 .
b. How godly will you say are the leaders in the various strata of the
government of our nation today?
3. Read 2 Chron. 10:4-8 and 1 Sam. 8:11-19 and point out how the qualities
here are different from the qualities required in question Two (2) above, and
their possible impact on nation building.
4. a. From the following scriptures, identify and discuss the basic biblical tools
and strategies for raising godly leadership in a polity, Exod. 18:20-23;
Deut. 17:14-15; 34: 9; 1 Sam. 9:16; 10:20-24; Acts 1:23-2 .6
b. How does the Biblical model for raising godly leadership differ from the
modern day ways for raising leaders in our nation?

CONCLUSION: The bane of the socio-economic advancement of any polity has
been attributed to ungodly leadership. Good and godly leadership is certainly
the panacea to the multitude of problems facing many nations today; and this
can be achieved only as nations turn to God, who alone can help to provide a
nation with godly leaders.

FOOD FOR THOUGHT : Worldly election patterns in the church produce leaders
who have no use for God.
