DAILY FOUNTAIN DEVOTIONAL (ANGLICAN COMMUNION)

TOPIC: A DISCIPLE
TEXT: ACTS 16:1-5(NKJV)
1. Then he came to Derbe and Lystra. And behold, a certain disciple was there, named Timothy, [the] son of a certain Jewish woman who believed, but his father [was] Greek.
2. He was well spoken of by the brethren who were at Lystra and Iconium.
3. Paul wanted to have him go on with him. And he took [him] and circumcised him because of the Jews who were in that region, for they all knew that his father was Greek.
4. And as they went through the cities, they delivered to them the decrees to keep, which were determined by the apostles and elders at Jerusalem.
5. So the churches were strengthened in the faith, and increased in number daily.
STUDY
Timothy was a well-known disciple who was brought up in the Christian faith by his mother, Eunice and grandmother, Lois, both Jewish believers (2 Tim. 1:5).However, his father was Greek. He was well reported of by the brethren at Lystra and Iconium. Paul took him on his journey and both of them went around establishing the Churches in the faith and sharing with them the letter, from the Apostles as their number increased.
Who is a disciple? The term ‘disciple’ originally meant a pupil (of a teacher) or an apprentice (to a master craftsman). Originally, a disciple was someone who literally knew Jesus in the flesh and followed him. However, after Jesus was taken up into heaven, anyone who was committed to Jesus was called a disciple. A disciple of Jesus is someone who believes in Jesus, seeks to follow Him daily by studying God’s word (the Bible), listening to others teach from it and putting it into action by seeking to live the way Christ wants us to live. Many people believe they have become disciples of Jesus when He has forgiven their sins.But this is just the starting point in following Jesus. A disciple of Jesus enters a life-long learning process to live the same life as Jesus lived. The life of Jesus is a perfect expression of God’s will. “A disciple is not above his teacher, but everyone who is perfectly trained will be like his teacher” (Luke 6:40).Are you a disciple of Jesus?
