BRIEF COMMENT
This passage reiterates the cordial relationship, indivisibility and oneness of the Persons of the Godhead — God the Father, Son and the Holy Spirit. According to the number one of the thirteen Tenets of our church: The unity of the Godhead and the Trinity of the Persons therein, God is but one Lord (Deuteronomy 6:4) no plurality or dualism. Nothing should be before and after Him. However, the Lord who is Sovereign, unequal, incomparable chose to present Himself in three folds (offices, persons), as the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. These three do all things in common with one unique eternal purpose.
The three bear witness in heaven… Witness maryreo (Greek) means to testify, charge, give evidence, bear record, etc. With unity of purpose the Father, Son and Holy Spirit carry out tasks or decides on matters in heaven. This explains the two occasions in Genesis when God had to make a call …Come let us make man in our image (2:26) and in Genesis 11:7, Come let us go down…
And these three are one… one monon (Greek) means sole, single, alone, only, by themselves, etc. The Father, Son and the Holy Spirit are one. This necessitate the cry of the Israelites in Deuteronomy, about oneness of God as against the pantheon of god’s that they encountered in the land of Egypt, God is one and He wants to be seen and worshipped as just one. Before God, is God, and after God, is God, no one else. May we be helped by the Holy Spirit to adapt this well into our system as Christ’s believers in Jesus’ name. Amen.
Devotional Bible Readings For Week One
Mon. 13: God Creates Man A Tripartite Being (1 Jn. 5:8)

DEVOTIONAL THOUGHTS
1. The three Persons in the Godhead remain indivisible; so must the body of Christ be, despite its many parts.
2. Just as God is not divided against Himself, the body of Christ, which is the believers, must not be divided, but form a formidable force to pull down the works of Satan.
BACKGROUND SCRIPTURES: Genesis 1:2b, 3; Matthew 3:16,17.

INTRODUCTION
TEXTUAL SOURCE: GENESIS 1:3,11; DEUTERONOMY 6:4; JOB 11:6-9; JOHN 1:1; 3:16; 5:7,8; ACTS 17:24-29; HEBREWS 9:14; 1 JOHN 5:7,8; 1 PETER 1:2.
God has been very faithful to us as He treated us to His best in the January to June 2020 series of the Sunday school, with the theme, GOD IN THE ADMINISTRATION OF MAN, We would forever be grateful to Him as He helped us to understand Him as the Governor in the affairs of man. We have seen Him as the Owner of everything created; both human and non-human, and the actualise His purposes on earth. That served as the beginning of a fruitful one-year spiritual adventure. May the name of the Lord be forever praised. Amen.
In this second half of the year 2020, we are harping on another broad theme, THE UNITY OF BRETHREN. The lessons in the series start with UNITY OF THE TRINITY; it progresses and extends to the Unity in Salvation, with fully explanation on the reasons for unity, disunity and their consequences.
The first lesson in the series (UNITY OF THE TRINITY) is a two-week lesson. What Is Trinity? What is the constitution of the Council of the Trinity? And what are the little revelations that the Bible exposes to make man understand the doctrine of the Trinity, as revelation belongs to God (Deut. 29:29)? These are some of the questions this lesson is out to address.
May we be properly positioned in God’s presence to get all He has for us totally and completely, in Jesus’ name. Amen.

LESSON EXPOSITION
I. TRINITY: WHAT IT’S ALL ABOUT (Deuteronomy 6:4; Job. 11:6-9; Acts 17:24-29; 1 John 5:7,8)
The meaning of something is very important to how much you can know about it. There are times you think you know something, but in actual sense, you know but little about it. It takes deliberate effort to “know” gnosko (Greek) before you can grasp the full meaning of something Trinity is not written in the Bible, yet, it spreads throughout the pages of the Scripture on practice. It is too deep to understand, and in actual sense, it is a mystery, we can only know as much as God has revealed to us in the Scripture about Him. Even with this scriptural revelation, many still misconstrue and misinterpret. By now, you should have begun to have a light.
A. THE MEANING OF TRINITY (Deut. 6:4; Job 11:6-9; 1 Jn. 5:7,8)
Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one! (Deut. 6:4)
i. Hear, O Isreal came from Heb. word, “Shama” and Latin “Sema” that implies “to hear or listen.” It means to herald publicly, for the people to hear and get their relationship with the only God strengthened.
ii. Trinity implies the union of three Divine Persons, God the Father, the Son (Jesus Christ) and the Holy Spirit, in the Godhead.
iii. 1 Jn. 5:7,8: For there are three that bear witness in heaven. Each Person of the Trinity is unique, yet, they are ONE. It is inexplicable. It is a mystery. In man, 3 witnesses — spirit, water and blood, unite to sustain him. These 3 are inseparable. Don’t dissociate yourself from Christ, His Word and His church.
iv. Each Person of the Trinity is equal to the other in wisdom, power, holiness, glory and other divine attributes (Matt. 28:19). Don’t try to lift one over the other. Lesson: none of us should see him/herself as better than others. We are brothers in Christ.
v. Job. 11:6-9: Can you search out the deep things of God? Trinity is a great mystery that cannot be fully fathomed and exhausted by human faculty (Rom. 11:33-34). The carnal mind cannot easily understand or accept it. It is only by Scripture that it can be understood.
vi. As believers in Christ Jesus, we don’t serve three God’s as some people confusedly count it for us. We serve the only living God who at the same time operates as Trinity — The Father, the Son (Word) and the Holy Spirit.
B. THE ATTRIBUTES OF THE TRIUNE GOD (Acts 17:24-29)
Forasmuch then as we are the offspring of God, we ought not to think that the God-head is like unto Gold or silver or graven by art and man’s device (Acts 17:29).
i. Eternal: God the Father is everlasting (Isa. 40:28; Rev. 4:8); the Son is Alpha and Omega (Rev. 1:8); and the Holy Spirit is the eternal Spirit (Heb. 9:14). Of course, spirits don’t die not talk of the Spirit of Jehovah.
ii. Omnipresence: God the Father is everywhere, filling both the heavens and the earth (Jer. 23:24). The Son is always with us till the end of the ages (Matt. 28:20). The Holy Spirit is everywhere (Psa. 139:7,8)
iii. Omniscience: The depth of God’s knowledge is undetachable (Rom. 11:33)), Christ Himself is God’s wisdom (1 Cor. 1:24; Col. 2:2-3), and only by the Holy Spirit, we know the things of God (Prov. 20:27; 1 Cor. 2:11).
iv. Omnipotent: All power, glory and dominion belong to God (1 Pet. 5:11), the Son has all authority (Mt. 28:18), and the Holy Spirit does mighty works (Rom. 15:19).
v. The Persons in the Godhead are individually referred to as God (Jn. 6:27; Jn. 1:1; Eph. 4:30).
vi. God is more than what man can fathom. In the bid to understand and explain God, many have gone into idolatry, trying to represent God with some created things — Sun, Moon, iron, water, vegetable, etc. God is more than anything.
WORK TO DO
What is your understanding of the tripartite nature of man concerning his being, or his creation?
SUGGESTED ANSWER TO WORK TO DO
i. Man is tripartite in nature, as God’s Trinity is inseparable.
ii. Man’s nature is composed of body, soul and spirit. This three are indivisible and all work as one, in unison, to ensure the continued existence of man.
iii. Also, the tripartite nature of man concerning his being, or his creature is that in man, there are three witness — Spirit, Water and blood unite to sustain him.
