CROSS YOUR JORDAN

Read:  Joshua 1:10-11

Joshua 1:10-11  Then Joshua commanded the officers of the people, saying,

Pass through the host, and command the people, saying, Prepare you victuals; for within three days ye shall pass over this Jordan, to go in to possess the land, which the LORD your God giveth you to possess it.

MEMORISE:

Prepare provisions for yourselves, for within three days you will cross over this Jordan, to go in to possess the land which the Lord your God is giving you to possess (Joshua 1:11)

EXPOSITION

Like the experience of Israel in the wilderness, their entrance into and conquest of Canaan can be called an “example that was written for our admonition” (1 Cor. 10:11). As of Canaan, the possession of the Promised Land that God promised Christians involves spiritual warfare and conquest. There are many Jordans that must be crossed in our lives after our Salvation. The believer must learn to step out in faith to cross Jordans in order to grow. Just like Israel, the crossing of Jordan will be accomplished with Faith, Trust, and Dependence upon the Lord. God always goes before us and opens the way, directing our paths. We must learn to lean on His strong arm, seek His will, wait on His timing, and allow Him to direct our paths, if we will cross our Jordans to the Promised Land.

For Joshua and the Israelites, the possession of the Promised Land was realised and maintained by faith in God, expressed in obedience to His Word and in warfare against God’s enemies.

Christians are involved in a spiritual warfare – the power of the Holy Spirit (Rom. 8:13), against the corrupt desires within themselves (1 Peter 2:11); against the ungodly pleasures of the world and temptations of every sort (Matt. 13:22) and against Satan and his forces.

Christian soldiers must wage war against all evil, not in their own power, but with the spiritual weapons (2 Cor. 10:3-6, Eph. 6:10-18).

PRAYER POINTS

1. Lord Jesus, I trust and depend on You, empower me to cross the Jordans of my life.

2. Holy Spirit, empower me to overcome the spiritual warfare in the Christian race to the Promised Land.

3. Holy Spirit, empower our churches today, to wage war against all evil reigning in our midst in Jesus’ name.
