A SLUMBERER

Read: Matthew 13:25-30

Matthew 13:25-30  But while men slept, his enemy came and sowed tares among the wheat, and went his way.

But when the blade was sprung up, and brought forth fruit, then appeared the tares also.

So the servants of the householder came and said unto him, Sir, didst not thou sow good seed in thy field? from whence then hath it tares?

He said unto them, An enemy hath done this. The servants said unto him, Wilt thou then that we go and gather them up?

But he said, Nay; lest while ye gather up the tares, ye root up also the wheat with them.

Let both grow together until the harvest: and in the time of harvest I will say to the reapers, Gather ye together first the tares, and bind them in bundles to burn them: but gather the wheat into my barn.

MEMORISE:

Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour (1 Peter 5:8)

EXPOSITION

To slumber means to be in a very light state of sleep. A Christian who was once active in the thongs of God, prayed often – long and alone, read his Bible daily and meditate on God’s Word, had time to wait upon God in fasting and prayers, derive pleasure in fellowshipping with the people of God, enjoyed going for evangelism and love the kingdom business, so much concern about his spiritual growth than any other thing that he can never neglect a time of personal devotion, but suddenly find it difficult to do any of those spiritual activities/exercise is a slumberer. He has taken a nap in the spirit.

Spiritual slumbering can cause a lot of havocs, a short moment of spiritual slumber can destroy one’s life and truncate destiny. Therefore, we need to awake unto our main focus, revive your spiritual fervency.

In the parable of the tares, Jesus explained to His disciples how the enemy – devil – sows tares among the wheat and this was done in the night while men slept. Satan watches all opportunities when a vibrant child of God slumbers in the spirit, in order to gain access into his life at any given occasion. He is out to replace those activities that make us awake – closer relationship with God with his tricks that make a ‘once vibrant Christian’ give excuses at all time for not being fervent in the Lord and the things of God.

The Scripture warns us to be sober and vigilant, because the devil – our enemy is out there seeking for whom to devour. His whole design is to devour and destroy souls. Satan always aims at the faith of a child of God and he will devise means to make him weary in the things of God and then strike.

Go back to your first love for Christ, awake from your spiritual lukewarmness now. Remember, Satan is never tired and he never sleeps, do not be caught unaware, he tricks a child of God – bit by bit.

You need strong determination and conscious efforts to do this. Start now.
