THEME: GOD IN THE ADMINISTRATION OF MAN (II)
January 31st, 2021
II. HE UNFOLDS HIS ETERNAL AGENDA (Genesis 11:1-10; 12:1-3; 17:1-27).
God prepared the agenda for the world before anyone was created. He determined what He wanted to do, who would be used and when such should be done. Continuity is one of the features of God’s programme.
A. STARTS WITH ABRAM (Gen. 12:1-3).
And he said, “Brethren and fathers, listen: The God of glory appeared to our father Abraham when he was in Mesopotamia, before he dwelt in Haran, and said to him, ‘Get out of your country and from your relatives, and come to a land that I will show you'” (Acts 7:2,3).
Acts 7:2: In this particular area Stephen launched into a long speech about Israel’s relationship with God. From Old Testament history he showed that the Jews had consistently rejected God’s message and his prophets and that this council had rejected the Messiah, God’s Son. He made three main points:
(1) Israel’s history is the history of God’s acts in the world;
(2) People worshipped God long before there was a Temple, because God does not live in a Temple; and
(3). Jesus’ death was just one more example of Israel’s rebellion against and rejection of God.
Stephen didn’t really defend himself. Instead, he took the offensive, seizing the opportunity to summarize his teaching about Jesus. Stephen was accusing these religious leaders of failing to obey God’s laws–the laws they prided themselves in following so meticulously. This was the same accusation that Jesus had leveled against them. When we witness for Christ, we don’t need to be on the defensive. Instead, we can simply share our faith.
God has eternal programme and nothinh can break or interrupt or. Generations to generations and this plans goes beyond the second coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.
Be like Stephen use every opportunities you have to make this eternal plan known to the entire world. No matter the challenges.
The plan has started even before Abram. It even continues after the flood. He is the Creator and the Governor of all nations (Isa. 45:18, Psa. 22:29). Man was confused but God can never be confused.
God discovered Abram and he became God’s prepared vessel despite the fact that he had apparently irreligious background but the omniscient God had see that he has all it takes to fit in his eternal plan. God cannot be short of ‘personnel’ Make yourself available.
Abram obeyed God when God called him. Some of you are ignoring the call of God. Don’t you know it’s a privilege to work with the real Owner of the entire universe.
It’s was discovered that more than 10 billion galaxies exists in this world. Our galaxy is one out of the 10 billion +. It was also discovered that it will take 400 million years for any man to go round the entire world if he traveled by jet. Jet is even more faster still it will take 400 million years to go round the world. Bible now tell us that this whole world is like a drop of water in God’s hand and another Bible verse said heaven is my throne and earth is my footstool. Our God is great.
Do you know that heaven has no boundaries? And the beauty and glory of the place cannot be described; ask Apostle John who wrote the book of Revelation.
You can see how great this God is and to work with Him. Abram and others were privileged to worked with Him. And they see beyond this earthly gain. This is what God expects from you. When you see beyond this earthly gain it won’t be difficult for you to preach and do the will of God even at any situation you find yourself.
B. SUSTAINS THE RELATIONSHIP WITH COVENANTS (15:1-5; 14-21).
In your seed all the nations of the earth shall be blessed because you have obeyed My voice (22:18)
Abraham received abundant blessings because he obeyed God. God promised to give Abraham’s descendants the ability to conquer their enemies. In addition, God promised Abraham children and grandchildren who would on turn bless the whole earth. People’s lives would be changed as a result of knowing of the faith of Abraham and his descendants. We often think of blessings as gifts that we will enjoy. But when God blesses us, his blessings may also overflow to others—today and into eternity.
God think beyond you and your children. When you obey God you’re helping all your coming generations but when you decided to go against the will of God you’re indirectly destroying the future of your children and coming generations. Abraham’s life if a yardstick. Learn from him.
Don’t go your way, go in God’s way. Do it the way He want not how you want it. Consider God’s time not your time. Give all to Him when He requested, even if He did not requested for it. Not when you just feel or given with doubting mind. You can’t played God.
God’s programmes are eternal, unstoppable and indestructible. These must be SUSTAINED by those God has chosen for the assignments who must continue to pursue the ORIGINAL INTENTIONS of the Owner.
LESSONS DERIVED
1. God is the Governor of all Nations, and directly, or indirectly, He always starts something with the one He has graciously chosen.
2. When God has finally decided on what to do, His programme (Plans) cannot be destroyed, but He can change the persons who refuse to comply and be relevant.
QUESTIONS
1. God is merciful; He spared the Ninevites who repented. Can there be forgiveness without repentance?
2. What is God sustaining or starting with you in His Kingdom? Are you living up to His expectation?
Thank you for appreciating this little lesson. May God give you excellent grace to play your own role in the eternal plan of God.
