BE USEFUL TO GOD

Read: Isaiah 6:1-8

Isaiah 6:1-8 In the year that king Uzziah died I saw also the Lord sitting upon a throne, high and lifted up, and his train filled the temple.

Above it stood the seraphims: each one had six wings; with twain he covered his face, and with twain he covered his feet, and with twain he did fly.

And one cried unto another, and said, Holy, holy, holy, is the LORD of hosts: the whole earth is full of his glory.

And the posts of the door moved at the voice of him that cried, and the house was filled with smoke.

Then said I, Woe is me! for I am undone; because I am a man of unclean lips, and I dwell in the midst of a people of unclean lips: for mine eyes have seen the King, the LORD of hosts.

Then flew one of the seraphims unto me, having a live coal in his hand, which he had taken with the tongs from off the altar:

And he laid it upon my mouth, and said, Lo, this hath touched thy lips; and thine iniquity is taken away, and thy sin purged.

Also I heard the voice of the Lord, saying, Whom shall I send, and who will go for us? Then said I, Here am I; send me.

MEMORISE:

Also I heard the voice of the Lord, saying: “Whom shall I send, and who will go for Us?” Then I said, “Here am I! Send me” (Isaiah 6:8)

EXPOSITION

When a man decides to leave his home and visits a shopping mall to buy groceries, then he must have use for them. Everyone God created has a purpose to fulfil. Our purpose or usefulness varies in God’s hand; we all have different assignments. But for a man to be useful to God, there are certain conditions the man must meet.

He must be FAST: Faithful; Available; Submissive; Teachable.

These attributes were displayed by Isaiah when he heard God’s clarion call. Isaiah proved his FAITHFULNESS by not hiding from the call as many will do today. Faithfulness is a very important (in fact, highly prioritised by God) requirement for Christian stewardship (1 Cor. 4:2). To be faithful, is to be consistently trustworthy and loyal, especially to a person, promise, or duty.

Secondly, Isaiah declared his AVAILABILITY to God: ‘Here Am I’. The man God uses, is he who is readily available when God needs his service. Those who abdicate their God-appointed duty posts are seldom relevant in God’s service. In addition, Isaiah was totally SUBMISSIVE to the divine call. He humbly cried, ‘Send me’. That underscores the readiness to go wherever, and do whatever God had for him.

Finally, Isaiah acknowledged his weakness so that he could be made fit for the Lord’s use (Isa. 6:5-6). He was ready to learn and to follow God’s mandate for his life (vv. 9ff). Teachability is indispensable for being used by God.

How useful are you to God? Are you FAST that God can rely on you? God is looking for men that are FAITHFUL, AVAILABLE, SUBMISSIVE, AND TEACHABLE. You can be the next Isaiah.

PRAYER POINTS

1. O Lord, purge me of every unwholesome attitude so that I can be useful to You.

2. Holy Spirit, fill my life with every quality I need to be useful and relevant in Your eternal redemptive programme.

3. Holy Spirit, help every Christian youth to discover Your purpose for their individual lives, so that they can be useful tools in Your hands.
