TOPIC: WHY WORRY?

Read John 14:1-6

MEMORISE: Let not your heart be troubled, you believe in God, believe also in me (John 14:1)

EXPOSITION

Everyday comes with its own dose of troubles and challenges (Matt. 6:34). These challenges include the known and unknown, the seen and unforeseen, pre-determined and planned for and the undetermined. There are challenges of what to eat, societal pressures, economical change, and life-threatening situations, such as sickness and death that may show up suddenly. The truth is that Jesus hasn’t promised us that we won’t have challenges in the world, but the joy is that we have His provisions to overcome them even before they come (Jn. 16:33). What a great relief!

In the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus announced to His audience that everyday has its own sufficient trouble, which worry cannot change (Matt. 6:34). Hence, the motivation of John 14:1, that our heart confidence should rest on Christ and God, who has the solutions to all our worries. All God needs from us is to depend on Him for our daily engagements with life.

Let us face every new day with the confidence that God is there for us and that no challenges we face are bigger than He. ‘Casting all your care upon him for He cares for you’ (1 Pet. 5:7), is a promise that stands sure. Even ‘when the devil walks to and fro, seeking whom to devour’ (1 Pet. 5:8), we still have a divine coverage in God (Psalms 91). The devil has been trying to counterfeit the Lion of the tribe of Judah. The joy is that the Lion of the tribe of Judah (Jesus) is the consuming fire who swallows up the devil and his wiles and programmes (Heb. 12:29; 1 Jn. 3:8). So, the devil is under our feet, if we can consistently trust in the God of Peace (Rom. 16:20).

PRAYER POINTS

1. Lord, take charge of every situation in my life.

2. O Lord, teach my heart to trust in You for Your consistent provision.

3. O Lord, may all our leaders, parents and politicians learn to trust You for directions.
