TOPIC: A HALT TO BAD HABITS – 1

BIBLE TEXT: Proverbs 22:17-25

MEMORY VERSE: “Make no friendship with an angry man; and with a furious man thou shalt not go: Lest thou learn his ways, and get a snare to thy soul” (Proverbs 22:24, 25).

Our Bible text of today tells us to listen to the words of the wise and apply knowledge in our words and actions, and to trust in the Lord. Our memory verse however deals with the day’s topic of stopping bad habits. We are advised to avoid friendship with anyone who has a habit or nature of anger. Anger is just a letter short of danger. Following an angry person will make us to adapt to his habit of anger and begin to manifest anger like him. Hence Matthew Henry said, “Bad words are soon learned by converse with those that use them, but not soon unlearned.” There are many perspectives to habit because it is an action or pattern of behaviour that is repeated so often that it becomes typical of somebody. However, the person may be unaware of it.

Many things some people do habitually include: interrupting others in conversation, spitting in public places, lying, meddling, stealing, sneering at or mocking others, and overeating. Do you have bad habits? Take your bad habits to God in prayer; victory will be yours.

CHALLENGE: Old habits die hard.

PRAYER: Lord Jesus, empower me to overcome all bad habits. Amen.

QUOTE:  Take your bad habits to God in prayer.
